Will vs. Paul: Why Sonny Could Choose Either of Them

Sonny is days away from sharing “I Do’s” with Paul on Days of Our Lives (DOOL).

It’s the second marriage for Sonny (Freddie Smith), who’s ready to put his past with “the late” Will behind him. Although he recently dreamed about his first husband, Sonny is ready to move on and spend the rest of his life with Paul (Christopher Sean).

Of course, as the couple’s wedding day approaches, Chandler Massey is inching closer to resurfacing as a living, breathing Will. The scenario will leave Sonny with a major choice to make. Here are reasons why he could to choose to be with each of them.

For the Love of Paul
Paul is Sonny’s first love. The pair met when Paul was a major league baseball player and had a clandestine affair. At the time, Paul wasn’t ready to come out of the closet, so Sonny reluctantly moved on. Since then, Paul has accepted his sexuality, professed his love to Sonny, and fully committed to him.

With Will comes a lot of heavy baggage – a manipulative mom, Sami (Alison Sweeney), an alcoholic dad, Lucas (Bryan Dattilo), and a complicated past with Gabi (Camila Banus). Paul isn’t even toting a carry-on. He has a great relationship with his newfound dad John (Drake Hogestyn) and stepmom Marlena (Deidre Hall).

Let’s face it, Paul is the total package. He’s handsome, honest, and totally has his act together. He’s the kind of man that everyone dreams about having a relationship with, and now Sonny does.

Wild About Will
While Paul might be Sonny’s first love, Will is the man he chose to marry and pledge his undying devotion to first. On the couple’s wedding day, Sonny promised to forsake all others and spend the rest of his life committed to Will. Those vows remain very much in effect if Will is indeed alive.

There’s a special link between Will and Sonny: Will’s daughter, Arianna. Sonny has thought of the little girl as his own since the day she was born. And he stepped up as her father figure when Will was “murdered.” With Will’s return, the two men could resume their double daddy act stronger than ever.

The sympathy factor plays strongly in Will’s favor, as does Sonny’s guilt over never having made amends with his estranged husband before he was “murdered.” With everyone warmly embracing Will’s return, Sonny likely will, too, and easily find himself caught up in the past and thinking about a future with his long-missing husband.
