The love story of Will (Chandler Massey) and Sonny (Freddie Smith) is groundbreaking for Days of Our Lives and daytime as the two characters were the first gay males to marry on soaps.
Their story isn’t just about their sexuality — rather they go through all the things heterosexual couples go through and they have fans rooting for them to overcome those obstacles. Here are five of the couple’s greatest moments over the years.
First Kiss
Will had overheard Adrienne (Judi Evans) saying that he wasn’t good enough for Sonny and wanted to back out of their date, but Sonny let Will know he thinks for himself — and believes Will is definitely good enough — and he kissed him. It was a tender moment, filled with emotion.
First Made Love
Sonny wanted to make sure that Will was ready for what they were about to do and Will let him know he was. The clothes slowly came off as the kisses grew more tender. After, the two held hands and stared into each other’s eyes. Sonny asked if he was okay and Will was way better than that. They decided it was perfect.
New Year’s 2014
The two couldn’t even wait until midnight to start kissing, anxious to welcome in the New Year and all its possibilities. Then, when the clock struck midnight, Will ran across the room to find Sonny and the two hugged and kissed like there was no tomorrow.
Wedding Vows
Sure, the original was done with Guy Wilson playing Will but then the show reshot it with Massey and it was incredible.
Will finally remembered the love he shared with his husband and their incredible ceremony with Marlena (Deidre Hall) presiding. The way they stared into each other’s eyes as they said their vows — priceless.
Memories…
Will had come back from the dead without his memories intact and he didn’t love Sonny because he didn’t know him.
Sonny was devastated and gave Will a divorce. But when Will finally got his memory back and told Sonny, the relief in Sonny’s eyes was everything! He finally had his husband back!
