It seemed like John had lost his mind when he started poisoning best friend Steve on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), and while we know it looks bad from what we saw today, fans came up with a more acceptable reason — and we wish DAYS had done this.
It’s too easy to think that John (Drake Hogestyn) was programmed by Stefano (Joe Mascolo) to turn bad, which was one theory. Or perhaps this isn’t John at all? Nah. There was one fan theory that seemed to be a distinct possibility and we liked it a lot more because it saved John’s integrity.
What if John did this because he wanted to help Steve (Stephen Nichols) get into a special medical trial to possibly get the sight back in his other eye — but in order to be eligible, his eyesight in the remaining eye had to be much worse? Is it possible that John is doing this for Steve’s own good?
It’s certainly a lot easier for fans to think John is helping than to think he actually really turned evil and is trying to kill his best friend! Perhaps he can’t tell Steve because if the medical trial folks found out, he wouldn’t be allowed into the program.

The women they love, Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) adore each other as well. If the men were at odds, it would be hard on them too.
That is just one of the many reasons fans can’t bear to think that John could possibly be doing something nefarious so this reason would explain why he can’t tell anyone and keep his and Steve’s integrity intact. If only…
