Why Steve Seeing His BFF Bo on Days of our Lives Moved Us The Most

Before Bo Brady brings his ghostly presence to Beyond Salem on the peacock streaming service, he made a pair of spectral appearances on Days of our Lives. Ciara Brady Weston and husband Ben Weston were celebrating the birth of their son, Bo Brady Weston, when the original recipe, his late grandfather, popped in from — presumably — the great beyond to say…hi?

Days of our Lives: Nice To Meet You

Ciara (Victoria Konefal) and Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) were pretty chill to encounter a ghost. (Then again, they’ve both been dead and seen dozens of others come back from the dead, so they’re kind of used to it being a temporary state.)

Frankly, we were more intrigued by how perky Ciara seemed presumably only hours after having delivered a baby with no medical intervention…or epidural. She was still wearing the same — pristine — clothes and everything. Ben was awed to meet his father-in-law, and Ciara and Bo (Peter Reckell) shared some motorcycle shop talk. But their exchange was nothing compared to what came next.

Thank You For Being a Friend

Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) was sobbing over the dead body of his son, Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams), when, suddenly, white-clad Bo appeared…and brought the young man back to life.

Nichols only had a few seconds to see his former best friend turned enemy turned friend again. But he made the most of it. In one look, he managed to remind viewers of how the pair had been in the Merchant Marines together, how a fight over a woman led to Bo putting Steve’s eye out, how Steve – then called Patch – terrorized Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso) and how he ended up teaming with Bo to save the world, and even won over Bo’s sister, Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans).

And this is why soaps like Days of our Lives reward multi-year viewing. Small moments can lead to giant feelings. It’s also why having the same actors in the same roles decade after decade — even if they took off decades in between — is also such a huge payoff.

This version of Ciara has no history with Bo beyond what’s on the page. While Nichols and Reckell actually played out the stories they are recalling in the moment. And why the reunion with “Patch” ended up packing a bigger punch than the one with Ciara.
