They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but we wonder what good is a picture when you can’t recognize the subject? Above is a snapshot of a future star of soaps but can you guess who this bespectacled one grew up to be?
Obviously this young woman (now all grown up) is either currently starring in, or is an alum of, one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless – but that’s probably not enough of a hint.
So try these on for size. She rose to prominence thanks to her work on a science fiction/comic book adaption program and her work in daytime has been legion – she has, after all, appeared on three separate soaps and played seven characters therein. She is also a Daytime Emmy Award nominee.
But just who can she be? Is this a photograph of Hunter Tylo (ex-Taylor Hayes, BB), Stacy Haiduk (ex-Kristen DiMera, DAYS), Jane Elliot (ex-Tracy Quartermaine, GH) or Tricia Cast (ex-Nina, YR)?
Tylo’s first professional credit was the 1984 slasher film The Initiation, which was quickly followed with roles on back-to-back soap operas – All My Children (where she played Robin McCall) and Days of our Lives (where she played Marina Toscano).
She joined the cast of BB in 1990 and she remained there (on-and-off) until 2002. She subsequently reprised the role in 2004 and again between 2005 and 2019.
However, the gadget-filled She Spies was the closet Tylo ever came to appearing in a science fiction series, and she was never nominated for her (clearly outstanding) work on either of the three soaps. So she isn’t today’s featured star.
Sure, Elliot is still fondly remembered for her work as Princess Cleopatra on the science fiction children’s series, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, starring Deidre Hall (Marlena, DAYS), who would become one of her closest friends.
But she’s also well known for playing five characters on six serials – A Flame in the Wind (ex-Linda Skerba Driscoll), GH, Guiding Light (ex-Carrie Todd), All My Children (ex-Cynthia Preston), Days of our Lives (ex-Anjelica Deveraux), and The City (where she reprised the part of Tracy).
For her efforts at GH, Elliot not only received four Daytime Emmy nominations, but she also netted one win – in 1981 for Outstanding Supporting Actress. So, she isn’t today’s mystery child.
Her first professional credit was the sitcom The Bad News Bears and her subsequent work included The Ghosts of Buxley Hall, Santa Barbara (ex-Christy Duvall), and YR. It was her work on the latter that won her the 1992 Daytime Emmy in the Younger Actress category. But the mystery soap star isn’t Cast.
Haiduk’s first role was in the film Magic Sticks. But her second credit, Lana Lang in the series Superboy, proved to be her most popular and enduring. Her daytime career began on All My Children (ex-Hannah Nichols) and continued with a dual role on YR (ex-Patty Williams; ex-Dr. Emily Peterson), a brief role on DAYS (ex-Warden Smith) and then a return to DAYS in the role of Kristen DiMera and her retinue of look-alikes.
So, if you guessed that perhaps the future star of soaps seen in the image above was Stacy Haiduk – the Daytime Emmy Award-nominated actress for her role as Kristen on DAYS, which she has played on and off since August 21, 2018 – then you were absolutely correct!
