There was a bit of panic on social media this week after a scene aired on Days of Our Lives that implied that Kimberly Brady was now dying from the same cancer that caused Theresa to fly with Tate to be by her side.
Brady (Eric Martsolf) was making small talk with Victor (John Aniston), and told his grandfather that Theresa’s (Jen Lilley) mother, Kimberly Brady Donovan (Patsy Pease), was “still dying” — upsetting many longtime fans of the character.
Fans were so upset that many started tweeting head writer Ron Carlivati and asking if he was planning to kill off the character.
Well, it was a surprise to the head writer, who set about to track down what had happened.
Apparently, there was nothing in the original breakdown (outline) that was sent to the scriptwriter.
When writing a soap, a head writer works with breakdown writers who create a synopsis about the day, breaking the episode down into scenes and what should happen in each one. That outline is then given to a scriptwriter, who creates the dialogue.
Carlivati was able to figure out what happened and then responded to one fan’s inquiry, sharing what exactly had transpired and how the error occurred.
“To all who commented on/reacted to this scene: Kimberly is not ‘still dying.’ This was not in the outline and should not have been in the script. It was a continuity error. As previously stated, Kimberly is doing better. Apologies to anyone who was upset or offended. #days”
In the tweet, he also attached a snapshot, which you can see below, of the original outline that was sent to the scriptwriter.
This news will be a huge relief for those who have loved Kimberly since she debuted in Salem back in 1984, and her love affair with Shane Donovan (Charles Shaughnessy).
