In the second half of the 20th century, Days Of Our Lives was all about the supercouples, from the late 70s on.
Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) got the trend going — even appearing on the cover of Time Magazine — followed by Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Roman (then-Wayne Northrop), Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and Jack (Matthew Ashford).
All of the above have broken up and gotten back together — even from the dead — numerous times. Right now, Jack is yet again alive… but suffering from amnesia.
Eve (Kassie DePaiva) is doing her best to keep them apart, and Jack’s betrayal of JJ’s (Casey Moss) trust regarding Haley (Thia Megia) is certainly helping.
But does this couple ultimately belong together? What almost 17,000 fans had to say:
Always And Forever
Of course, 81% of you insist. They have been meant to be ever since Jennifer lost her virginity to Jack in a cave and helped complete his journey from the spoiled rich boy and entitled rapist to wacky, lovable hero.
They snooped (sorry, investigated) together, they had children together, they broke up and got back together. Eve is nothing. She’s barely a spoiler. As soon as Jack remembers who he is, he’ll remember who the love of his life is supposed to be, too.
Fresh Blood
But for 19%, Jack and Jennifer are last century’s news. Out with the old, in with the new, they cheer. Jack and Eve never got a fair shake. Jennifer was always around. But Jack has grown up. Jennifer hasn’t. (Even if she is a grandmother of two and wears Alice Horton’s hairdo).
Jack needs an adult woman like Eve. And, if not Eve, maybe somebody else. It feels like we’ve seen every possible version of Jack and Jennifer already and, if we wanted reruns, we could watch primetime shows.
Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
