Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) has a long tradition of characters breaking out into song. Remember Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and Doug (Bill Hayes) reminiscing recently about how he’d serenade her at Doug’s Place?
(Where, we want to know, were the flashbacks? The scene was written like it should have flashbacks, the scene was shot like it should have flashbacks, and yet there were no flashbacks! One of the best things about soaps is that, when they talk about the past, they have actual footage, not actors in very bad makeup. Or, at least, they should.)
There was also Robert (Robert Clary post-Hogan’s Heroes) singing, and Liz singing. Liz was played by Gloria Loring, who these days is best known as Robin Thicke’s mother. Plus Brady (then-Kyle Lowder) and Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) were always breaking into duets.
So, what we’re trying to say is, there was lots of singing on DAYS. Now it’s Claire’s (Oliva Rose Keegan) turn. Would you like to hear more — or less — from the songbird? Almost 8,000 fans hit the high-notes to answer.
Why Does the Caged Bird Sing… When No One Asked Her To?
Like that caged bird, 80% of you would like Claire to… how to put this nicely?… shut up.
You don’t want to hear her talk, you don’t want to hear her whine, you don’t want to hear her complain, and you definitely don’t want to hear her sing. Can she work on her career wherever it was Eve (Kassie DePaiva) disappeared to?
Sing For Your Supper
On the other hand, 19% would rather hear beautiful music coming out of Claire’s throat than the usual justification about why the latest bad thing she did wasn’t really all that bad and why is everyone being so mean to someone so cute — cue the big, doe-eyes.
At least when she’s singing, she isn’t being… herself.
(Disclaimer: We think Olivia Rose Keegan has a beautiful singing voice, but many fans would like to see the character just grow up a tad rather than sing a tune.)
