Veteran Soap Star Carrie Genzel Guests on BET Series Sistas

Soap hopper Carrie Genzel, best known for her run as Skye Chandler on All My Children, is guesting on a sudsy nighttime serial Sistas, which explores the stories of four women searching for love and happiness.

Carrie Genzel — New Show

Genzel plays Tony Whitmill, the wife of a U.S. Senator, who is going through a nasty divorce and she presents Zac (series regular DaVale Ellis) with a business proposition. Taping on the Tyler Perry Studios lot in Atlanta was a challenge, the actress says — despite bringing with her the skills from daytime that taught her how to shoot a show a day.

“I was pretty prepared to move at the pace they do,” Genzel tells Soap Hub. “I’d been told by actor friends that they work fast and I was ready to rock. But even having daytime experience did not prepare me for the exceptional speed at which [Perry] moves throughout his day.”

Genzel says any pressure she faced to step up her game came from within — not the production team. “Knowing Tyler Perry had written all of the words [in the script] and was directing all the episodes, I did put pressure on myself to be word perfect. Yet, [Tyler] doesn’t put pressure on his actors. I think what he prefers more than anything is that things sound organic and natural. I realized I was hired for a reason and was trusted to do what was best.”

As COVID-19 safety protocols were in place, Genzel quarantined, wore face shields and masks, and people stood six feet apart. “I haven’t seen the show yet and I’m am looking forward to seeing it,” Genzel adds. “Actors can get stuck in an idea of what we want a performance to be. I was reminded you keep going no matter what.”

Genzel, now married, says she’s been living in Atlanta for the last few years. There are other daytime folks living there, but she hasn’t had too many in-person reunions due to the pandemic. “We’ve all been inside so, I more stay in touch with friends on social media,” the actress says.

In addition to her run as Skye, Genzel was also Ali on Days of our Lives and she got her daytime start playing a nurse on The Bold and the Beautiful in 1995! Watch for her to appear in tonight’s episode of Sistas and in the next episode airing on Wednesday, June 23. Sistas airs on BET at 9 p.m. (8 p.m. Central).
