Louise Sorel has made her mark on several soaps over her long career and now the beloved actress has even more reason to celebrate.
Sorel was born on August 6, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, which means she turns 78 today!
You could say it was her destiny to be an actress considering who her parents were — actress/concert pianist Jeanne Sorel, and Albert J. Cohen, who produced films in the 1940s and 1950s.
While soap audiences know her for her larger-than-life characters, Sorel’s career began in the theater. She was a student under legendary acting teacher Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York.
She made her Broadway debut in 1961 with Take Her, She’s Mine starring the legendary Art Carney. From there, she co-starred on Broadway with Rita Moreno in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window in 1964.
Long before she got her first soap opera job as part of the original cast of Santa Barbara as Augusta Lockridge in 1984, the actress guest-starred on countless primetime shows, including Knots Landing as Bess Riker.
Along the way, Sorel appeared on Port Charles as Donatella, Passions as Dort, and One Life to Live as Judith, but it was her role on DAYS as Vivian that truly endeared her to the soap audience.
In her personal life, the actress married and divorced Ken Howard from The White Shadow, as well as character actor Herb Edelman.
Soap Hub wishes Louise Sorel the happiest of birthdays.
