Back in the spring, we learned Days of Our Lives was bringing back Valerie Grant, a character who hasn’t seen the light of day since 1981. Now we know who will play her, as primetime actress Vanessa Williams announced her debut in the role.
Williams took to Instagram this week to announce her new role and her DAYS debut. The actress came to primetime fame back in the 1990s on Melrose Place, but also appears on the acclaimed web soap, The Bay. You may also know Williams from her roles on Chicago Hope and the Showtime series, Soul Food.
Valerie was a popular character in the 1970s and caused quite a soap stir when she was the first African American character paired in an inter-racial romance with David Banning, Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) son and Doug’s (Bill Hayes) stepson. Alas, the couple broke up and the last we saw of Valerie, she had a brief fling with Abe before disappearing from Salem for more than 30 years.
Perhaps she and Abe (James Reynolds) can pick up where they left off all those years ago. He does need a love interest, and Theo (Kyler Pettis) needs a mother figure in his life.
