James Reynolds’ Abe Carver needs a fun fiery woman to ignite sparks in his humdrum do-good character. Remember how he shined when he became pals with the dubious Sheila (Tionne Watkins)? So pairing him with Jackee Harry’s Paulina Price is a guaranteed recipe for success on Days of our Lives. It’s too bad the no-brainer couple is destined for doom.
Abe and Paulina are a classic example of opposites attracting. He’s steady and stable, honest and true. She’s slick and mercurial, daring and devious. While Abe always makes the right choice, Paulina always makes the choice that’s right for her. Together they’re an imperfectly perfect yin and yang match.
Since the couple crossed the line between friends to lovers, Abe’s got more pep in his step. He’s more vibrant and alive. Paulina’s smiling more and eagerly sharing the details of her new relationship. Having the attention and affection of a quality man like Abe has grounded Paulina and clearly made her happier.
The Abe and Paulina coupling has been flirty and fun. It’s made the twosome appear energetic and young. They’re almost like two high school kids enjoying romance for the first time. And their family and friends are all in on the pairing, as long as they’re making each other happy, which they are at the moment.
However, as a Days of our Lives viewer, it’s hard to ignore that there’s big trouble ahead for the duo. As mayor of Salem, Abe’s all about doing what’s best for its citizens and preserving the small town’s feel and history; particularly, the revered Horton Square.
Unfortunately for Abe and the town’s people, Paulina’s all about doing what’s best for Paulina. Although the wealthy, successful businesswoman proposed a plan to keep the square’s hometown charm, while opening it up to more diverse small business owners, that’s clearly not her agenda.
Paulina’s been secretive and covert regarding her true project. Despite the occasional pang of guilt, knowing she’s lying to Abe about her intentions and is undermining her daughter Chanel’s (Precious Way) dream of opening her own bakery, Paulina’s been forging forward.
What’s going to happen when Abe learns the truth – like, perhaps, Paulina is plotting to eliminate all the small businesses in the quaint square and turn it into a corporate shopping mall or giant condominium structure? That remains to be seen, but it isn’t going to be pretty or bode well for the pair. And it’s a shame because they’re working so well together. Yet, Paulina will have no one but herself to blame for trying to pull one over on honest Abe.
