Soap operas like Days of our Lives know that the best way to redeem a character is to make them suffer. If they suffer enough, fans will begin to feel sorry for them, and then all their bad deeds are instantly forgiven – voila!
Days of our Lives Polling
See: DiMera, Kristen (Eileen Davidson; now Stacy Haiduk). Or Deveraux, Abigail (Marci Miller). Or Walker, Nicole (Arianne Zucker). We can go on and on. The question is, should Ava (Tamara Braun) get the same treatment? What almost 5,000 fans think:
Go For It
Charlie (Mike Manning) tied Ava to a chair. Ava had some bad dreams, one where she heroically exposed Charlie as Allie’s (Lindsay Arnold) actual rapist, but then Charlie killed Tripp (Lucas Adams), and Steve (Stephen Nichols) showed up to tell Ava she was a bad person. Aw… poor Ava!
Sure, Steve has been telling her pretty much the same thing for literally years, and as recently as last month, but telling her in a heroic dream was particularly brutal. We feel much sads for Ava now, and want her to become a good girl, 70% of you insist out of nowhere. She raped Steve, kidnapped Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), and faked her death so Joey would go to prison? But… sads!
Not In My Lifetime
Uhm, Ava raped Steve, kidnapped Kayla, and faked her death so Joey would go to prison. No, she should not be redeemed, a smaller 30% of the audience contradicts. So she got a little dehydrated, was drugged, had a few hallucinations, and now wants to do the right thing.
Not because it’s the right thing, but because she happens to prefer one son over another (likely due to who their fathers are). Give her some fluids, let the drugs wash out of her system, make her tell all… and then continue to shun her. She’s not going to reform. So why should anyone forgive her? Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
