Steve and Kayla are off on a trip — to find Tripp Dalton, who just might turn out to be Steve’s long-lost son on Days of our Lives.
Lucas Adams is scheduled to debut in the role on March 24, giving us time to speculate about just who Tripp might be — and what kind of trouble he’ll cause in Salem.
Triple Time
Tripp is not a common name — unless the boy was named after his childhood tendency to fall down a lot.
It’s usually a nickname for ‘Triple,’ which is what you call people when their name is Something Something The Third (think Thurston Howell). People with a name like Something Something The Third tend to be rich (again, think Thurston Howell).
Which suggests that Tripp was adopted by a wealthy family. Which makes sense.
Poor people rarely adopt children (no matter what soaps might lead you to believe — who needs another mouth to feed?).
Plus, buying babies on the black-market doesn’t come cheap (though they do waive the sales tax). So at least we might be spared the typical adopted soap child’s lament about how he grew up with nothing while biological Mom/Dad had everything, blah, blah, blah….
Criminal Record
Steve (Stephen Nichols) ran his son’s name through a criminal database and told Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) that the boy has a record — shoplifting and assault during a fight. Exactly the kind of charges rich parents are good at getting dropped against their baby boy (see: Affluenza).
A tendency to fight might suggest abuse at home. So at least there might be the typical adopted soap child’s lament about how his biological parents abandoned him to horrible people, blah, blah, blah.
And you know that Steve, who grew up with an abusive dad, will be crushed. And feel guilty. Which could lead to all sorts of excuses for his new off-spring.
Everything’s Relative
Now let’s talk romance. Tripp isn’t a Horton or a Brady. The only people he’s related to are Stephanie, Joey (James Lastovic), Sonny, JJ and Abigail. So they’re out as romantic possibilities. But everyone else is fair game. Who do you think will catch his eye first?
