When Stephen Nichols first started on Days of Our Lives over three decades ago, one of his first big stories was the introduction of the Pawn — also known as John Black, played by Drake Hogestyn. Steve was keeping him hostage for Victor (John Aniston).
It was 33 years ago yesterday on January 24, 1986, that the bandages were removed from the Pawn and Hogestyn made his debut.
To mark the occasion, Nichols shared a picture of the two of them — both donning his infamous eyepatch, which you can see below.
“Whatchu doin’ with that Patch, dude? Love you, buddy. Happy 33rd #days.”
Their special chemistry has been missed onscreen where their characters, Steve and John, are best friends and also co-own Black Patch, a detective agency.
We’ve learned that Steve has been helping to investigate who used his new bionic eye to download ISA secrets, but the actor is missed on the show.
Steve’s wife and son, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Tripp (Lucas Adams), discussed on Wednesday’s air show about how much they miss him and when he could be expected back.
As of now, fans will have to count on social media and old YouTube videos to get their fill of the Steve/John friendship, but hopefully that will be remedied soon.
Soap Hub also sends congratulations to Drake Hogestyn on 33 amazing years with the show!
Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
