Newlyweds Alex and Stephanie were thrown for a loop when Joy showed up with his daughter, Kelsey, on Days of our Lives. While Alex continues to embrace fatherhood, Stephanie’s deep-rooted fear and lack of desire to be a stepmom are putting their marriage in jeopardy.
Key Takeaways
- Stephanie’s stance on being a stepmother is crystal clear.
- Alex doesn’t seem to grasp the gravity of the situation.
- The future of their marriage is on the line.
Lines Are Being Drawn, But Alex Doesn’t See It
It’s no secret that Stephanie (Abigail Klein) wasn’t super keen on having children. Stephanie said as much to Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) months ago, which DAYS fans knew meant trouble was brewing on this topic.
Enter Joy (AlexAnn Hopkins) and baby Kelsey. When Joy left Salem last year pregnant, it was only a matter of time before she came back to drop the bomb on Alex; he was a daddy.
The story has focused heavily on Stephanie’s reaction to the situation. Granted, she’s still reeling from Owen (Wes Ramsey) kidnapping her, but her stance on being part of Kelsey’s life isn’t boding well for her marriage.
Stephanie told Alex she wasn’t ready to be a stepmother, but he didn’t seem to comprehend it, declaring she already was. However, she does love Alex, and Stephanie admitted to Brady (Eric Martsolf) that she’s hoping that will be enough for her to someday love his daughter, too.
The problem with that is that Stephanie has been keeping Kelsey at bay. Not only did she suggest that Alex meet and bond with Kelsey by himself, but Stephanie also pushed him to stay in Salem instead of going with her to Tripp’s (Lucas Adams) wedding in Asia.
Stephanie wants to keep her marriage to Alex separate from his daughter, and it won’t work. Alex is stepping up for Kelsey and wants her to be part of the family with Stephanie and him.
However, his wife is not on the same page and may never be. The more Stephanie resists spending time with Kelsey, the more Alex will be torn between the two most important women in his life.
In the end, if Stephanie can’t figure out how to at the very least be part of Kelsey’s life, Alex will start to resent her. Alex made it clear early on in their relationship that he wants a family.
Now he can have that with Kelsey and Stephaine, and even Joy, in a sense. If Stephanie keeps distancing herself from that, it’s going to cost her.
Alex may love Stephanie, but Kelsey is his daughter, and at some point, he will choose Kelsey over Stephanie if he feels his wife isn’t accepting his daughter.
Then again, the way Stephanie is operating, she could walk away from Alex to let him build the family he wants, which will end their marriage.
Whatever happens, all signs point to trouble brewing between Stephanie and Alex because of her feelings about being a stepmother.
