Days of our Lives spoilers for Wednesday, December 4, mix warm memories of Doug with an unexpected crime. What a shame Paulina is having such a hard time filling her police department.
Doug’s (Bill Hayes) funeral was also a chance to open the Salem time capsule found after the fire in the Horton house. An unexpected treasure was inside. Also unexpected? One of the items went missing right under the noses of Salem’s police force.
We realize that Rafe (Galen Gering) quit after Paulina (Jackée Harry) didn’t want him to return to his Chief position (which, by the way, is illegal since he was out on medical leave in the name of duty). But Jada (Elia Cantu) is the Chief of Police now. And there are a whole bunch of ex-officers milling around. Roman (Josh Taylor), Abe (James Reynolds), Lani (Sal Stowers), Eli (Leman Archey), Hope (Kristian Alfonso), Shawn (Brandon Beemer)…. Is anyone going to do…anything?

Julie’s brother, Steven (Stephan Shnetzer), is back in Salem for the first time in decades. (Don’t confuse him with Steve Johnson, who’s been back for a while…since coming back from the dead.) And who should Steven run into but…Leo (Greg Rikaart)? Leo????
This is a soap, so anything could come from it. They could have a one-night stand. They could date. They could team up to figure out who the new Lady Whistleblower is. Or they could turn out to be related. As in father in son. Which would make Leo a Horton. The mind reels at the possibilities.

Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) will miss Doug for the rest of her life. She will obviously draw comfort from her children, grandchildren, and friends, as well as her memories of Doug. But Doug will also continue on…in the shape of his grandson and namesake, as Julie meets Doug Williams III (Peyton Meyer).
