He has been on both General Hospital and Days of our Lives, not to mention departed soaps As the World Turns, All My Children, Santa Barbara, and Port Charles, so it’s safe to say that Réal Andrews has conquered daytime and won the hearts of fans across the board. Now he will need that support as he takes on the fight of his life.
Réal Andrews In Cancer Battle
This past fall, the actor shared on Instagram that he is in a battle against prostate cancer. “The Battle begins. Let’s go. Rise and Grind! #kickcancersass #prostatecancer #cancersucks”
Well, that battle was taken a huge step forward Tuesday when the actor checked into Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. He shared a photo of himself, decked out like Santa Claus saying, “Ready for the big day. It’s go time #cancersurvivor #cancer #cancersucks #cancersupport #kickcancersbutt #amareglobal @amareglobal”
Getting Ready For Battle
Réal Andrews, who most recently played Jade’s troubled father Hal Michaels on DAYS from 2016-2017, has been sharing how much he has gone through this past year, including getting sober, dealing with a bipolar diagnosis, and now this — all while sharing his motivational thoughts to try to help others.
Someone who has been by his side as he’s gone through this has been former GH co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny). The two got to know each other when he played Det. Marcus Taggert on the show. And while they were at odds with each other in Port Charles, behind the scenes the two have grown closer, trying to stay mentally healthy and help others.
You Gotta Have Friends
Benard shared a photo of the two pals on his own Instagram account this past summer to share his pride about how far Andrews has come. “I found Detective Taggert sneaking around my house and I had to take him down….I am so proud of @realandrews not only for signing with @embracerealartists but for turning his life around!!! #friends #life #gh #mentalhealthawareness #mbstateofmind #champion”
Soap Hub hopes that everything went smoothly for Réal Andrews and that the actor continues on his road to good health surrounded by his incredible community of family and friends.
