Celebrated Days of Our Lives (DOOL) actor and soap vet Bill Hayes (Doug Williams) passes a major life milestone today!
On June 5, 1925, Hayes was born in Harvey, IL. Today this awesome soap star celebrates 92 amazing years! During his years on DOOL, Hayes is the only person to fill the role of Doug, and he works right alongside his wife Susan Hayes (Julie Williams) whom he married in 1974.
On the show, together, Doug and Julie became the first Salem supercouple! Time magazine featured them on its cover in 1976 due to the popularity of their sudsy relationship. So far, they are the only soap stars who appeared on the iconic magazine’s cover in that way.
Hayes began his professional career, not as an actor, but as a singer. In the early 1950s, he appeared on the Your Show of Shows variety shows. Did you know that he appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 as number 1 for five weeks with his version of the Ballad of Davy Crocket?
