The Friday the 13th franchise is quintessential Halloween viewing. With 12 films — and countless multi-media tie-ins — this series is one of the most popular, profitable, and properly terrifying in scary movie history. And, believe it or not, it’s also a great resource for discovering some truly killer performances from a bevy of former and future soap stars.
Actor: Kevin Bacon
Daytime Daze: (ex-Tim Werner, Guiding Light; ex-Todd Adamson, Search for Tomorrow)
Before Kevin Bacon was best known for… well, being Kevin Bacon, he was playing an orphaned alcoholic on the longest-running soap, Guiding Light, which aired on CBS.
But just prior to his GL debut, the nascent performer had appeared in a low-budget slasher film — titled Friday the 13th — about a group of camp counselors being picked off one by one by a mysterious murderer.
As Jack Burrell, Bacon was the third victim claimed by Mrs. Voorhees, who punctured his throat with an archery arrow.
Actor: Lauren Marie-Taylor
Daytime Daze: (ex-Stacey Donovan Forbes, Loving; ex-Eleanor Skofield, Ryan’s Hope)
Although Friday the 13th Part 2 was performer Lauren Marie-Taylor’s second acting credit, it proved to be good practice for her future daytime endeavor.
In the 1981 sequel, Marie-Taylor’s character Vickie Perry is one of the unfortunate victims preyed upon by a sack wearing Jason Voorhees. After finding two of her fellow camp counselors slaughtered in their beds, Vickie is attacked, chased, and ultimately stabbed to death by her pursuer.
Nearly 15 years — and one starring role on ABC’s Loving — later, Marie-Taylor’s Stacey Forbes would be the first casualty of a mass murderer euthanizing people they believed to be suffering emotional or physical distress.
Actor: Peter Barton
Daytime Daze: (ex-Eddie Connors, Sunset Beach; ex-Dr. Scott Grainger, The Young and the Restless)
Friday the 13th – The Final Chapter marked Barton’s second foray into the slasher genre and just like in his first film — Hell Night — the character he portrayed did not escape the killer’s clutches.
Actor(s): Camilla and Carey More
Daytime Daze: (ex-Anna Devane, General Hospital; ex-Gillian Forrester, Days of Our Lives) and (ex-Grace Forrester, Days of Our Lives), respectively
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter served as the film debut for identical twins Camilla and Carey More. Three years before Camilla would play out a death scene on Days of Our Lives, she got to be one of Jason’s victims.
As Tina Moore, she was kicked out of a window while Carey’s character — Terri Moore — was stabbed in the back with a spear and then impaled onto the side of a cabin.
Actor: Renee Jones
Daytime Daze: (ex-Lexie Carver, Days of Our Lives; ex-Nikki Wade, Days of Our Lives)
In between her first and second stint at Days of Our Lives, actress Renee Jones swung by Camp Crystal Lake in the film series’ sixth offering — Jason Lives.
As aspiring counselor Sissy Baker, Jones suffered a truly grizzly fate — after being pulled out of a window and tossed onto the ground below, Jason severed her head using his bare hands and a twisting motion.
Actor: Michael Swan
Daytime Daze: (ex-Adam Alexander, The Bold and the Beautiful; ex-Duncan McKechnie, As the World Turns)
Like Renee Jones and other soap stars, Swan made his Friday the 13th debut in Jason Lives and like Jones, his character — Officer Pappas — suffered sever cranium damage courtesy of Jason.
Actor: Staci Greason
Daytime Daze: (ex-Isabella Toscano Black, Days of Our Lives)
John Black’s future bride and Brady’s mother appeared in the seventh Friday the 13th film — The New Blood — which was three films AFTER the promised “Final Chapter.”
Greason’s character, Jane McDowell, took a tent pole stake to the throat and her body is pinned to a tree where it later startles “final girl” Tina Shepard.
Actor: Peter Mark Richman
Daytime Daze: (ex-CC Capwell, Santa Barbara; ex-Andrew Laird, Dynasty)
There were many people throughout the run of Santa Barbara who wanted, threatened, or attempted to kill CC Capwell — heck, Gina unplugged his respirator in a bid to be rid of him.
But while CC persevered, Richman’s character in Jason Takes Manhattan wasn’t so lucky. After being tossed out a window by the fiendish killer, he was suspended by his ankles and plunged headfirst into a barrel of toxic waste.
