The legendary Joseph Mascolo, who brought Stefano DiMera to glorious life on Days of Our Lives off and on for more than three decades, died December 8 at age 87.
Apparently, Mascolo had been battling Alzheimer’s Disease for many years. Longtime DAYS Executive Producer Ken Corday released the following statement.
“It is with great sorrow that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and beloved member of the Days of our Lives family, Joseph Mascolo. The smile on Joe’s face is something we’d all come to find comfort in, and he will be sorely missed. His larger than life presence, kind heart, and unwavering positivity has impacted us all for decades, and will live on in the memories of his many fans. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”
Mascolo hailed from Hartford, CT and had aspirations of being a classical musician before giving acting a try. He appeared in numerous TV and movie productions before creating the role of Stefano in 1981. He appeared on the show on and off until this year.
During his time away from DAYS, the actor also had roles on The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, and Santa Barbara.
Mascolo is survived by wife Patricia Schultz-Mascolo, as well as one son, a step-daughter, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
