Poor Abby is getting manipulated by a woman who she thought was her friend but while it’s hard for fans of Chad and Abby on Days of our Lives to watch, it’s given all the actors involved a lot of meaty material to play. Marci Miller, who portrays the woman wrongly accused of cheating, made our hearts break and for that, she is being awarded Soap Hub’s performer of the week!
Knowing Miller can knock it out of the park isn’t exactly news. Anyone who saw her tackle Abby’s multiple personalities during her last go-round as the feisty daughter of Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Cady McClain) — and get nominated for a Daytime Emmy to boot — certainly knows she can deliver. But this wasn’t a showy performance.
Abby didn’t rant and rave when her beloved husband Chad (Billy Flynn) falsely accused her of cheating on him. She turned inward, hurt that he could accuse her of that when she thought they were in a good place. It brought up a painful time, throwing it in her face. What she didn’t know was that he was being manipulated by their nanny. Gwen (Emily O’Brien) has been playing them both like a fiddle as she tries to destroy Abby’s life.
But their love is very real and perhaps Gwen has underestimated the Days of our Lives couple. Abby knew she couldn’t get on her high horse — after all, there was a time she did cheat with her husband’s brother. And now she’s been accused of cheating with his lookalike twin. Yet she wasn’t in her right mind back then, and Abby alerted her husband to that very fact, as she held back tears.
Abby is no saint. She was hurt over the unjustified accusation and turned the tables on him so he’d know what it’s like — and accused him of having an affair with Gwen. He thought it was ridiculous but she showed she had more proof of that than he had of her being with Jake (Brandon Barash). But she did believe him — because he’s him. It brought the point home for Chad, and the moment highlighted the special connection these two actors share.
These were well-written scenes that reminded viewers why they enjoy this couple so much. Flynn gave as good as he got but these scenes provided Miller more of the meat. It’s great fun to see these two get this kind of material — hopefully, that will continue. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
