They say variety is the spice of life, and they don’t come spicier, or more varied, than Jackée Harry, the newest hire at Days of our Lives. Harry is an actress who always brings a certain effervescent charm and a boisterous attitude to whichever role she plays, and Miami real-estate mogul Paulina Price is no different.
However, special kudos, in the form of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week Award, are due Harry in light of her handling a special pair of episodes which saw Paulina anger Kate, educate Julie, and make a fool out of herself.
Paulina is the type of lady who speaks as she finds, and she finds Salem lacking. The town, she pointedly informed Abe (James Reynolds), just in case he wasn’t aware, is “whiter than the Alaskan tundra, and I’m not talkin’ about those miles and miles of picket fences.”
But fear not Mr. Mayor, Paulina has the perfect solution to address that disparity. Turns out, she’s been looking to expand her brand into the mid-west, and that empty building that used to house GabiChic would make a perfect flagship office.
Not so fast, cried out Kate (Lauren Koslow). She has a signed lease and she ain’t budging for nobody. But Paulina wasn’t deterred. She knows that the contract has yet to be executed, and she’s also well aware of the fact that the landlord is, “open to a little palm greasing.” Furthermore, Paulina was sure that it would greatly behoove Abe to actually have a store in the town square that was minority-owned.
And her reasoning paid off…at least to the point that Abe expressed a willingness to arrange an introduction between Paulina and the building’s owner. Score one for Paulina!
Later, she’d have to wipe some metaphorical egg off her face when she wondered aloud why Lani (Sal Stowers) and Eli (Lamon Archey) had named their daughter after Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes), AKA, “this old white lady,” but then Paulina rebounded when she good-humoredly, but effectively, educated the older woman on why she shouldn’t ever touch a black woman’s hair.
And then came the pièce de résistance that was Paulina’s assumption that she was about to be named Jules’s godmother. “Oh my God!! Thank you!! I am honored to accept,” she excitedly squealed.
Paulina then rose from the table, delivered an effusive speech, ordered, “Champagne! Champagne for everybody…EVERYBODY,” and ran out the door busily preparing for the role that wasn’t even really hers. And yes, she did stiff Julie on those celebratory drinks!
Harry brought the funny – and an important lesson on personal boundaries – and she left Julie a little wiser and DAYS all the better for it! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
