Soap Hub Performer of the Week for Days of our Lives: Alison Sweeney

Alison Sweeney has steered Sami through a harrowing battle with bulimia, two traumatic rapes, a battle of wills waged against her half-sister, and a plethora of other dramatic happenings. And now, the recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week Award is taking her character into some uncharted territory.

Alison Sweeney – Performer of the Week

Sami’s always been a catalyst character – which probably goes a long way in explaining why, whenever this soap is in need of a shake-up, they script a reappearance.

Just when it seemed like Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) impersonating Susan (also Stacy Haiduk) was losing its steam, in came Sami who had a secret she was desperate to ensure that “Susan” would keep.

But it wasn’t her wacky mother-in-law whom Mrs. E.J. DiMera was asking to keep quiet about her extra-marital dalliance…and that revelation led to something rarely seen in human history – a totally speechless Sami!

After ascertaining that Susan hadn’t been forced into taking Kristen’s place at Statesville, Sami got a little buck – “So you are doing all this, again, to be close to Brady (Eric Martsolf)? Am I even supposed to care about this? I don’t! I don’t care!” – but she still agreed to engage in some good old-fashioned girl talk.

However, when Kristen insisted that Sami become her partner-in-crime, Sweeney got to steal the whole show with the lines, “Oh hang on there Thelma! There’s no way in hell that I’m getting on that crazy train!”

But buy a ticket Sami did; and she also decided that if she was going to be at a villain’s beck and call, she was going to make sure that she had her own backup. Enter Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo).

The exes, played to perfection by long-time friends, and even longer time co-stars, tried their best to come up with a solution to their problem…but much to their dismay, and to our entertainment, they came up empty-handed.

It’s hard when you’re so used to being the Voldemort who easily defeats the Bugs Bunnies of the world and then suddenly you realize that, in your current situation, you’re the carrot-loving varmint. Alison Sweeney pulled it off — and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
