On the May 21 episode of Days of our Lives, Anna let it slip to Philip that Gabi was the corporate spy who worked with Tony to make the Kiriakis family almost lose everything. A furious Philip didn’t wait for the standard soap-opera interval to reveal such an explosive secret. That would be weeks, maybe months, maybe years. Philip let Gabi have it in the same episode. And then he broke up with her. And then he stomped off. We didn’t expect to care. And yet we did. A lot.

Unlikely Bedfellows
When Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) and Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) first hooked up, it seemed sort of random. First and foremost, they seemed to be of different generations. Philip was part of the Belle (Martha Madison), Shawn (Brandon Beemer), Brady (Eric Martsolf), and Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) gang, all of whom have kids who are closer in age to Chad (Conner Floyd) and Abigail (Marci Miller), who are Gabi’s peers. In addition, we didn’t really see what Gabi and Philip had in common, besides both being good-looking — but who in Salem isn’t?
Perfect Fit
And yet, in spite of that, they worked. Together, Gabi and Philip were playful, sexy, and, most importantly, chill. There wasn’t much angst, or suffering, or conflict. They seemed to actually enjoy being together. And it was refreshing to see. It was fun to watch them support each other and be there for each other. Even as we knew there were secrets lurking in the background.
Out and About
And now one of those secrets is out. And Philip has peaced out of his relationship with Gabi. If you’d asked us at the start of their hook-up how we’d feel about its inevitable end, we’d have guessed… “meh.” But, shocker of shockers, we were actually sad to see Philip blow Gabi off today. And we’re rooting for a reunion. Who would have guessed it?
