In the June 26 episode of Days of Our Lives, Stephanie insisted Owen Kent was out of her life, deleted an article about him, removed the extra deadbolts from her front door, and declared that real security had to come from within. That’s a nice sentiment. It’s also exactly the sort of thing soap writers love to do right before proving a character couldn’t have been more wrong.

Key Takeaways

  • Stephanie declared Owen was behind her.
  • Belle revealed where Owen was being transferred.
  • Stephanie removed the extra locks from her door.
  • Her confidence may have come a little too quickly.
  • Owen’s story suddenly feels far from finished.

What Happened on DAYS

Belle (Martha Madison) updated Stephanie (Abigail Klein) on Owen Kent’s (Wes Ramsey) fate, explaining that he was being transferred to Lewenthal Forensic Hospital, a maximum-security psychiatric facility. On paper, that sounded like the end of the story. Stephanie certainly wanted it to be.

Later, she found herself reading an article about Owen before abruptly deleting it, insisting he was out of her mind and out of her life. Not long after that, she told Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) she realized safety couldn’t come from extra locks or reinforced doors. It had to come from inside herself. With that, she removed the additional deadbolt she’d installed after Owen kidnapped her.

It should have felt like a breakthrough. Instead, it felt like the show was waving a giant red flag.

Why It Matters

Soap writers don’t usually spend time telling viewers exactly where a villain is locked up unless that information will matter later. Belle could have simply said Owen was gone. Instead, she named the facility. That’s the kind of detail that tends to come back around.

Then came Stephanie’s scenes. She wasn’t just moving on. She almost seemed determined to convince herself she had moved on. Reading the article, deleting it, declaring Owen finished, taking down the deadbolts. Every step felt like someone trying to force herself to believe something before she was completely ready.

The Fallout

Maybe Stephanie really is healing. Maybe removing that lock is the first step toward taking her life back after everything Owen put her through. If that’s the case, good for her. She deserves it.

But if Owen ever escapes, or if he simply finds another way to terrorize her, this suddenly becomes a much bigger story. Stephanie already admitted that real security has to come from within. The next time Owen enters her orbit, we’ll find out whether she truly believes that… or whether this was only the calm before another storm.
