With failing ratings, a new New York time slot, and a new NBC daytime show hosted by Megyn Kelly, fear has been stirring for a while that Days of Our Lives is in danger of cancellation.
Today, a People Magazine article quotes anonymous sources that indicate the 51-year-old soap is on the chopping block.
According to People, a DAYS source claims some cast members have been told that this year will likely be the show’s last year on the air. In addition, the source says executives have told important staffers that the soap is probably not long for this world.
“Basically, we’ve heard that there won’t be a DAYS in 2018,” the source told People.

DAYS still has a contract with Sony Pictures Television through early this year and this new revelation puts doubts into whether the contract will be renewed. The soap tapes six months in advance and is currently taping summer episodes, so it’s possible it will air through the end of the year and that’s it — if its days are indeed numbered.
If DAYS is canceled, this would be the true end of an era for soaps, as there will be no more daytime dramas left on NBC. DAYS has been the only soap on the network since Passions was canceled in 2008.
