The world lost Days of our Lives star Peggy McCay just over a year ago on October 7, 2018, and on Sunday she would have turned 92 years old. To mark her special day, we remember the legendary actress and the impact she had on those who knew her.

Remembering Peggy McCay

Last year following her death, her TV son, Peter Reckell, notoriously quiet on social media, shared a tribute on Twitter about how much their professional relationship had influenced him over the years.

“I was so fortunate to have worked with some amazing actors that shaped the actor and person I am. Looking in Peggy’s eyes, all I could see was a Mom who loved me, and wanted the best for me. She was always so committed to the story. Those sparkling eyes.RIP”

Mother Figure
He was far from the only one who shared their thoughts on her teachings. She was an artist who led by example — someone for the younger Days of our Lives actors to watch and emulate. Mary Beth Evans, who worked with the actress as her daughter Kayla, also honored McCay after her passing.

“Oh how I loved this woman! Her strength & professionalism was like no other! She set such an amazing standard for all of us….as actors & people. She will always be the ❤️ & soul of the Brady family & she lives on in Salem and in our hearts. #restinpeacetvmama”

An Incredible Salem Presence

McCay joined DAYS back in 1983, the matriarch of the Brady clan, with four children at the time — Roman, Kimberly, Kayla, and Bo, along with husband Shawn (the late Frank Parker) and immediately her star quality grounded this new family and endeared them to fans almost immediately.

Besides having won a primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role on The Trials of Rosie O’Neill and her five nominations for a Daytime Emmy Award, McCay enjoyed a long and prolific career in Hollywood. Her first soap role was as Vanessa Dale on Love of Life while notable films included Uncle Vanya and Promises in the Dark.

As for guest roles, McCay was all over the primetime map for decades, appearing on iconic shows like Judging Amy, L.A. Law, Lou Grant, How the West Was Won, Gunsmoke and countless TV movies. She continues to be dearly missed. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
