Tate To Holly – He’s Your BROTHER, Not Your Boyfriend

In the Days of our Lives recap for Wednesday, December 14, 2023, Tate gives Holly a long overdue reality check that doesn’t really seem to land.

Days of our Lives Recap Highlights

In addition, Johnny romanced Chanel, Nicole and EJ buried “their” angel baby, and Xander and Sarah turned to, respectively, John and Marlena for advice. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.

Night On The Town

Having spent over two hours with him learning the finer points of fencing, Holly (Ashley Puzemis) wanted more time with Johnny (Carson Boatman). Unfortunately for her, he was booked for the evening. Dinner with the former missus and all. Why doesn’t Holly call up Tate (Jamie Martin Mann) and hang out with him?

After making a crack about boys Tate’s age only ever thinking about one thing, Holly decided it wouldn’t be such a bad idea after all. So, without much ado, she phoned the besotted boy and made plans. He offered her the world, but Holly chose to dine at The Bistro…which just so happened to be where Johnny and Chanel (Raven Bowens) were.

Coincidence? Chanel thought not. Johnny, on the other hand, was convinced she was reading too much into the situation. The couple’s conversation soon turned to the bad news that Paulina (Jackée Harry) had relayed earlier in the evening. Namely, Lani won’t be released from prison until after Christmas. Paperwork backlog and all that.

That coupled with Paulina obviously not feeling herself had Chanel on edge. Luckily Johnny was on hand to offer up his dad’s services. Sure, he might just be the D.A. of Salem, Anywhere USA, but he is a DiMera. And you should never underestimate one of those.

Meanwhile, Tate fumed. He knew exactly what Holly was doing. Coincidence, his behind. Now he can’t wait to get back to boarding school! That claim perked Holly up. Does he really want to go back? She’d actually miss him. She likes having him around. A little. Besides, he did promise to help her get Johnny away from Chanel. Didn’t he?

That set Tate off. He hollered that nothing was ever going to happen between her and Johnny. Her crazy fantasy was never, ever going to come true. Not only does he look at her as a little sister, but the age difference would result in him spending two to five in Statesville.

Always Near

No sooner had Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) returned from their own date at The Bistro than they were confronted with the ashes of “their” baby. (Read more about baby Jude here.) Just what the former needed. Just when she was starting to come out of the dark. Just when she was starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Another blow.

The two debated what to do with the delivery. Among EJ’s suggestions was interring them in the family crypt. Instead, Nicole decided to spread them in a flower bed right outside the front door.

Learning From The Masters

At University Hospital, Xander (Paul Telfer) and Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) met up for Victoria Margret’s handover. She’d spent her two days and nights at Daddy’s house, so it was time for two days and nights with Mommy. The air was thick with tension. Romantic and sexual. So thick that it sent Sarah running to Marlena (Deidre Hall).

Despite her fervent desire to spend a modicum of alone time with John (Drake Hogestyn) — the Christmas season is her busiest time of year. So much depression and anxiety and patients self-medicating — Marlena bid Sarah stay.

Sarah confessed that she was afraid she was making a huge mistake in allowing herself to get sucked in by Xander. Every time she lets her guard down, she regrets it. The stakes are so high this time. The two of them work as friends. Maybe they should stay that way? No, that will never work. There’s much too much history between them. Marlena’s sage advice? Stay in the moment. Enjoy life as it happens. It goes by so fast.

Opposite, Xander attempted to pick John’s brain. Given his storied history with Marlena, can he offer some tips? He knew John wasn’t always the man he is today. He dallied with his own dark side. What wisdom can he impart?

First and foremost, John wanted Xander to know what he thought of him. It wasn’t particularly pleasant. “Ass” and “screw-up” were bandied about. But, John was a firm believer in people growing and changing. He did. Xander has got to turn over a new leaf and turn it over for good this time. Not just for himself, but for Sarah and their tyke
