On the September 15 episode of Days of our Lives, Johnny couldn’t believe he was responsible for something that happened at the company before he got there, and Philip thought gambling was a legitimate business strategy. Which one of them is actually worse at their job?

Key Takeaways

  • Johnny struggles to grasp the responsibilities that come with running DiMera.
  • Philip’s casino wins don’t make gambling a viable strategy for saving Titan.
  • Johnny and Philip may have powerful titles, but neither has proven he belongs in charge.

Johnny DiMera: Businessman or Just Along for the Ride?

First up in the “Which one is a worse businessman” head-to-head match-up is Johnny (Carson Boatman). Remember that he was the guy who published a book he hadn’t even read, which allowed Kate (Lauren Koslow) to sue. At the time, Johnny didn’t understand why he was required to face the consequences of something he’d done.

So you can believe he doesn’t want to face the consequences for something he didn’t directly do: Which is dump tainted drugs on Smith Island. What did Johnny think being co-CEO of DiMera would entail? Sitting in the spinny chair and going “wheee” for most of the day?

Philip Kiriakis Is Gambling With More Than Titan’s Money

And then there’s Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier). Titan needed money to pay off a DiMera loan. So he convinced Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) to stake him five million dollars so he could go to Monte Carlo and bet it all on a high-stakes poker game. Philip won. But it wasn’t enough to save the family company. So he bet his windfall on roulette. And won again.

But here’s the problem: What happens the next time Titan is in financial trouble? If the company can’t actually turn a profit under Philip and Xander’s (Paul Telfer, who recently teased his character’s fate a year from now) stewardship, are they going to gamble every time there’s a financial shortfall? That is not a viable long-term strategy.

Johnny and Philip Got the Jobs, but Not the Skills

It’s hard to decide who is the worst at their job — but it’s pretty easy to figure out why. Neither Johnny nor Philip is qualified for their positions. Both were put into power because they happened to be born to the right family. They have no experience, no track record, and certainly no skills. In this case, they both lose.
