On today’s Days of our Lives, Eric Brady and Nicole decided to love the one that they were with. Anyone would have done in a pinch.
In addition, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) reached out from the great beyond, and Li reaped the benefit of Stefan’s slip of the tongue. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Nicole (Arianne Zucker) was determined not to let fellow diners Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Sloan Petersen (Jessica Serfaty) ruin her night out with EJ (Dan Feuerrigel) — but her efforts were all for naught.
Try as she might, she just couldn’t take her eyes off the burgeoning couple one table away. Oh, how they irked her. And how Eric could give a trampy, trouble-making, ambulance-chasing *ahem* woman like Sloan the time of day, Nicole would never understand.

Likewise, Eric couldn’t help but loudly rue his former wife’s association with the likes of EJ. That man is just all kinds of awful.
All the while, Sloan and EJ took their dates’ obvious disinterest in them in stride…but the sight of the two exes coming face-to-face — Eric was on his way to retrieve his reading glasses; Nicole was in search of aspirins for EJ — and subsequently huffing back to their table settings, was enough to completely kill the mood for both. Neither Eric nor Nicole was particularly bothered by their partner’s demand that they blow the joint.
Back at Sloan’s place, she offered Eric the option of taking his leave or his spending the night in her bed, and he took the latter. Meanwhile, EJ and Nicole decided that in for a penny, in for a pound quite neatly summarized their predicament and chose to mosey on up to his bedroom. Besides, they’d been taking things one day at a time for a whole day now.
It’s Valentine’s Day, and one of their many wedding anniversaries, so where else would Kayla be but with Steve (Stephen Nichols) — her death be damned?
To say that Steve was flummoxed would be an understatement, but the hits just kept on coming. Not only is Heaven — or wherever his Sweetness and her pals find themselves — corrupted, but mini-bad Nick Fallon (Blake Berris) tricked the trio into signing over their souls.
How can I help, wondered Steve. That’s a good question, pondered Kayla. She wasn’t sure, but Lord knows she needs it.
Before much more could be said, Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) arrived at the apartment and found Steve…asleep on the couch and mumbling to himself.
Upon being apprised of his stepmother’s supposed visit from the Great Beyond, Tripp insisted that his pops had merely dreamt the whole thing. This all called for a beer. Maybe two.
Did Gabi (Camila Banus) just hear Stefan (Brandon Barash) right? Did he just call her Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin)?! That swine! Apologies were made, but the evening was a bust.
Equally disconcerting to Gabi was Stefan’s admission that he’d actually been calling Chloe all night to check up on her, and that he’d just gotten off the phone with Chloe’s voicemail before phoning her. Second choice? Gabi was Stefan’s second choice?! She refused to let such indignity stand. Splash was the sound that Gabi’s wine made when she hurled it at Stefan’s torso! She said he could get back in touch when he realized she was the only one he loved.
Having been utterly humiliated by one husband, Gabi figured it wouldn’t hurt to wrap the evening in the presence of another. Li (Remington Hoffman) was heartened to see her, and in stitches when she explained the impetus for her visit.
How dare you laugh at me, bellowed Gabi. How dare Stefan, Li countered. Here his rival is doing nothing more than “playing both sides against the middle when he could have [Gabi] all too himself,” which is all Li ever really wanted. He loved Gabi. LOVES Gabi. And sure, he’s done…a few questionable things in pursuit of that love, but Gabi is all he ever wanted, and he couldn’t help himself.
However, Li loves Gabi enough to let her go…if that’s what she still wants. Hmmmm, Gabi mutters. She’ll need time to ponder that. In the meantime, she agreed to share a meal with Li. Hey, a girl’s gotta eat!
Though they were loath to pry, Wendy (Victoria Grace) and Johnny (Carson Boatman) couldn’t help but question how Stefan was doing — he was a sight to behold. And not a good one. Also, why was he busy scrubbing wine stains out of his top?
Terse explanations were given, Wendy and Johnny said that all would be well once Stefan had his conditioning reversed, and Stefan hedged that maybe there was more to his feelings for Chloe than meets the eye. After all, it is possible to have deep feelings for two different people, isn’t it? Isn’t it?!
Johnny and Wendy certainly think so. Johnny and Wendy are living that life — so to speak. Love…it’s complicated.
