In the Days of our Lives recap for October 5, 2023, Susan Banks made the rounds, surprising first her son and then her “B.F.F. M.E. M.D..”
In addition, Kate put her errant daughter-in-law on blast, Xander escaped certain death by the skin of his teeth, and Chloe and Philip decide to ditch Salem for the Big Apple. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
A flummoxed EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) gathered Susan (Stacy Haiduk) into his arms and marveled over her presence. He’d heard the rumors that she was alive, but he hadn’t allowed himself to believe.
While mother and son happily reunited, Ava (Tamara Braun) and Harris (Steve Burton) huddled together all conspirator-like and reminded themselves that they had to get EJ to confess to siccing that hitwoman on her while he was wired with sound.

Ava attempted to drag Susan into their sting, but no sooner had Susan demanded that her baby boy confess his sins and beg Ava’s forgiveness than EJ remembered Xander (Paul Telfer) and Rex (Kyle Lowder) were in grave danger and took his leave.
On her lonesome, once Ava and Harris headed back to the police station — and with nothing to keep her company but a fried baloney and mayonnaise sandwich — Susan headed for Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) office.
Marlena was delighted to see her old friend and termed it a miracle. But who was it that found her and took her to Edmund? Good question, Doc!
Meanwhile, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) found herself on the other end of Kate’s (Lauren Koslow) wrath as Mama Bear didn’t appreciate Sarah’s dragging Rex into her “psychodrama with Xander” and putting a target on Rex’s back.
Opposite Kate hissing that she wouldn’t stand by and allow her son to take a bullet for a woman who clearly didn’t love him — and learning to her great chagrin that it was Rex who came up with the idea of claiming Victoria Margaret as his own — Rex and Xander found themselves in dire straits.
EJ’s hired gun rendered Rex unconscious with a blow and trained a gun on Xander…and were it not for EJ’s intervention, he would surely have pulled the trigger.
A grateful Xander nonetheless planned to phone the authorities on EJ, but he was talked around with the promise that Susan wouldn’t press kidnapping charges. And despite a groggy Rex’s promise/threat that Xander would never get his hands on the baby, Xander’s mystery lawyer could but agree that things were looking decidedly up for him.
Over at Salem Park, Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) informed Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) that she was leaving Salem — and Xander. As to where she’s going, New York seemed her best bet. After all, that’s where her parents and son are headquartered.
Chloe asked after Philip and relayed how it had been great reconnecting with him. He, in turn, admitted he wasn’t sure what his future held, what with all the recent family upheaval. Chloe then floated the idea of him figuring things out in New York with her by his side, and Philip jumped at it. Now to break the news to Kate.
Opposite Harris making it clear to buddy Ava that he had no intention of leaving her to her own devices — if she is sent back to Bayview, he would go back to Bayview — Sarah confronted Rex and demanded a divorce.
