In the Days of our Lives recap for August 29, 2023, Brady gives serious consideration to turning his errant uncle in to the police — Chloe’s pleas for mercy be damned!
Note: The following article contains discussion of themes including suicide, which some readers may find upsetting.
In addition, Shawn contemplated the unthinkable and then sought help, Paulina set about making policy changes, Steve gave Abe the push he so desperately needed, and Rafe made a much-appreciated confession to Jada. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
Having had time to consider the facts, Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) declared to Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) that, despite being furious at him for what he did, she was so, so happy that he was alive — and of course, she’d be able to forgive him his trespasses. Every. Single. One of them. Because that’s just who Chloe is.
It then remained for Chloe to inquire as to Philip’s future plans, and he insisted that he intends to take full responsibility for what he did and let the chips fall where they may…which proved to be easier said than done when Philip ran smack into Brady (Eric Martsolf) in his attempt to exit stage left.

Brady was, at first, giddy as a schoolboy to see Philip alive and well — both because his uncle isn’t dead, and because Philip can now attest to the terrible, no good, very bad things that Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) did to him.
Unfortunately, Brady had to then stand and listen as Philip admitted to faking his death and making it appear as though Brady was his murderer. After expressing how profoundly sorry he was and swearing that he’d be sorry for the rest of his life, Philip wondered if Brady could ever forgive him. Brady answered the question by punching Philip in the face.
Following the punch, Brady produced his phone in an effort to call the authorities. Enter Chloe to make an impassioned plea on Philip’s behalf. (And she even evoked Victor’s name for good measure.) Brady, incredibly sore over the whole incident, took his leave without assuring whether or not he’d call the police. Later, he arrived at what he thought was still Shawn’s office and left a note for him to call him — it was important.
While Belle (Martha Madison) sat with Marlena (Deidre Hall) bemoaning trying to pull a “bait and switch” on Shawn (Brandon Beemer), in which she invited him out only to confront him with Brady who gave a stirring speech on why Shawn should attend AA, a dejected Shawn sat in his office, service weapon in hand, contemplating dark thoughts.
He was briefly pulled out of that state by Paulina (Jackée Harry), who’d swung by to announce that she was demoting him and reinstating Rafe (Galen Gering) to his former rank. Shawn took the news on the chin…then turned his attention back to his nearby gun.
Back at Marlena’s office, the good doctor did her best to alleviate Belle’s concerns about her husband — all while not completely breaking doctor-patient confidentiality — but she wasn’t getting anywhere. In all honestly, Marlena was concerned. Deeply concerned.
Shawn soon put in an appearance and handed over his holster. He wanted the weapon far, far away from him. And help. He most assuredly wanted help…despite the fit he threw in Marlena’s office earlier that evening.
A grateful Marlena and Belle worked to disabuse Shawn of the notion that he wasn’t due help. There’s no shame in asking, no matter how many times you do it.
Marlena gently floated the idea of placing Shawn on a 24-hour hold, and he agreed. Before getting the paperwork/assessment started, Marlena soothed Shawn with her intent to guide him through as his psychiatrist and to give him all the love she could muster as his family.
With nothing to do but make the sheets that Rafe had made all nice extra messy, he and Jada (Elia Cantu) got right down to it. Later, the two went downstairs for some nourishment, and it was there that Paulina found them. Surprising to both women, Rafe didn’t exactly jump at the chance to return to his former position…not until there were some concessions in place…like the abolishing of those draconian “fraternization policies.”
Despite it all, Jada encouraged Rafe to accept the job in the here and now, but he wouldn’t hear of it. He’s falling in love with her, and he wants to explore that, job or no job.
Meanwhile, Steve (Stephen Nichols) worked overtime to convince Abe (James Reynolds) to give reconnecting with Paulina a real chance. He even went so far as to reveal his own struggle with amnesia and how he overcame that memory loss to remember his Sweetness. Spurred on by his good buddy, Abe invited a visiting Paulina out on a date.
