In the Days of our Lives recap for September 5, 2023, Philip (and the scriptwriters) makes it perfectly clear that he’s just as obsessed with Chloe as he ever was.
In addition, EJ sicced an assassin on his mother’s supposed killers, Theresa Donovan made waves, and Sloan had quite the suggestion for wannabe father Eric. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.
Though Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) was the last person either one of them expected to see, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) welcomed his sudden arrival at the Kiriakis mansion as it kept her from having to further explain why she wasn’t exactly thrilled at the idea of marrying overeager Rex (Kyle Lowder) in the here and now.
After welcoming Philip home, Sarah took her leave of the brothers…leaving Rex to suffer through Philip’s diatribe about Choe (Nadia Bjorlin) marrying that “loser” Xander (Paul Telfer). That led Rex to wonder whether or not Philip was still obsessed with his ex.
Philip denied the charge and insisted that he was perfectly capable of controlling how he acts on his feelings for Chloe — and boy does he still have feelings for Chloe. In fact, Philip readily admitted that he was still head over heels in love with his ex. But have no fear, he won’t start “chasing after her.” And he has no plans to break up her and Xander.

That said, when Philip ran into Chloe — fresh off a convo with Nicole “I Live In A Glass House But Still Throw Stones” Walker (Arianne Zucker) — in the town square and saw that she was waiting on Xander, he made sure to bid the couple a pointed farewell.
At Bayview, Ava (Tamara Braun) confided in Harris (Steve Burton) that she’d remembered that Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) survived the explosion that supposedly ended his life. Turns out she’s not responsible for the death of EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) mother — a revelation that might have led EJ to put a moratorium on the hits he ordered on Ava and Xander.
Unfortunately, EJ remains none the wiser and the hired killer was able to easily infiltrate the notoriously questionable mental health facility. Harris managed to get the upper hand in a battle mano a (wo)mano, but it was Ava who got her hands on some cold steel and pumped out the lead. But who exactly did she hit?
Off her contentious non-reunion with Brady (Eric Martsolf), Theresa (Jen Lilley) had an even more unpleasant cross with Xander who wasn’t thrilled to see her “sorry little ass in Salem again.”
Eric (Greg Vaughan) stepped in and refereed the two when Xander got grabby, but he subsequently passed on Theresa’s plea that he talk her up to Brady.
Having been discharged from Salem University Hospital, Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) asked that Eric wait for her at the Brady Pub while she took a stroll to clear her head (and attempt to assuage her guilty conscience).
Sloan ran into EJ (just missing his villain monologue about making his enemies pay dearly), whose attempts at conveying his condolences for her miscarriage quickly devolved into him taking potshots at Eric’s inability to father a child. With that ringing in her head, Sloan made a beeline for her man and floated the idea of the two of them adopting.
