The DAYS recap for Friday, January 6, 2023, sees the Grim Reaper claiming a candidate that had slipped through its fingers once before.
In this episode, Kate Roberts Brady (Lauren Koslow) shuffles off this mortal coil. Elsewhere, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) gets excoriated by all and sundry, Kayla Brady Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) and Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall) take turns for the worse, and Alexander Neil Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) makes a fateful decision with long-lasting implications. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
When word reaches Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) that his little sister’s test results match Kate’s exactly, panic ensues — but Kate makes one thing perfectly clear: immanent relapse or not, she’s staying put at the Brady Pub. No arguments! But Roman argues.

And when Kate loses consciousness, it’s to University Hospital that she’s rushed. So much for honoring a dying woman her last wish! And far from being factious, Kate does, in fact, die — much to Rex Brady’s (Kyle Lowder) and Roman’s horror. TOD: 8:02 P.M.
That highly prized, magical properties-possessing orchid that was formerly in the possession of mean, mean, mean Kristen is nowhere to be found, and Kristen swears that it’s not her doing. For some strange reason, Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) doesn’t exactly put much stock in what his ex says.
Who knew that the highlight of John Black’s (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans Black’s evening would be the playfighting they did in a warmup to lull Kristen into a false sense of security? Certainly not John and Marlena, but it really was all downhill from there.
First, Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) had to break the news that a) he staged Rachel’s kidnapping in an effort to force Kristen’s hand and b) he was having to force Kristen’s hand because she and she alone holds the power to permanently cure Marlena, Kate, and Kayla Brady Johnson (Mary Beth Evans).
“I was right,” John wistfully declared, sidestepping the fact that if Marlena had given his theory credence months ago, they wouldn’t be in the position that they are in now.
But there’s more! Courtesy of Kristen, the assemblage learns that the only hope for an antidote is MIA. Cue the litany of dirty words hurled in Kristen’s face. In fact, just about the only insult that isn’t leveled is ‘bitch,’ and that’s only because Marlena already used that one in the aforementioned playfight. Kristen was hardly cowed. In fact, Brady stupidly returned Rachel to her mother, so Kristen learned absolutely nothing and was made to face zero punishment.
With Kayla rapidly declining, every effort is made to alert Stephanie to her mother’s plight. Unfortunately, it’s Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) who first attempts to get Steph on the blower, which results in a horned-up and fed-up Alex silencing his date’s phone after ignoring the call. Perhaps Steph shouldn’t have admitted that she’d just come from Horton House where Chad had tenderly tended to her aching ankle.
