The DAYS recap for Monday, December 19, 2022, spotlights the resilience of Salemites…those suckers are hard to kill. Really hard!
In this episode, University Hospital fills up fast and furious. Also, Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) learns that he’s no longer needed by his ex, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) stirs the pot, and mad bomber Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) throws a metaphorical Hail Mary. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
In the aftermath of the church bombing, there is much panicking, scrambling, shouting, and coughing. Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) is the first to come to, quickly followed by EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel); they set about locating their loved ones.

EJ gets his hands on Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman), ascertains that he’s as well as can be expected, then searches for Nicole Walker Soon-To-No-Longer-Be-Hernandez (Arianne Zucker). He finds her penned beneath a beam. Elsewhere, Tripp bumps into Ava and is forced to breathe life back into her.
Once Nicole is pried free, the assemblage — save for Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall), who’s had it with the day, thank you very much — make tracks for the hospital. There, EJ makes it his mission to ensure that Nicole is tip top — Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) doesn’t thank him for his effort. In fact, it’s clear that Nicole’s former flame is all kinds of jealous.
Though he fails to elicit anything worthwhile, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) emerges from his convo with Kristen more convinced than ever that she’s holding something over Brady Black’s (Eric Martsolf) and more convinced than ever that he’s the man to suss out exactly what that is.
Kristen, for her part, delights in telling a soot-covered Marlena that John confided in her the “fact” that there’s trouble brewing between him and ‘Doc’ and toying with Brady that she could always move out of the Black family penthouse — psst, she’ll be taking that lifesaving orchid with her, and she’ll never be handing it over though — if he so wishes.
Brady doesn’t wish. Well, he wishes, but he doesn’t want the deaths of three women on his conscience. That said, he does feel better at having filled Eric in on all of Kristen’s subterfuge though.
Will Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) ever be able to bring EJ to justice for kidnapping Tripp? Rafe sure hopes so, if, for no other reason, than to punish EJ for sniffing around Nicole. Of course, in light of want went down at Saint Luke’s, both men have much bigger fish to fry.
It’s Sarah Horton’s (Linsey Godfrey) birthday, and Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) has two surprises in store for her. First, the surprise party that he arranges for her with a bevy of her colleagues. Second, he resolves to confess to her that, yes, he is indeed the one who aided Ava in kidnapping Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) and Bonnie Lockhart Kiriakis (Judi Evans).
Sarah is suitably impressed by the festivities, but she doesn’t get to hear her hubby’s confession as she’s conscripted to treat the victims of Ava’s attack.
Upon hearing that his old boss is alive and fairly well and confined to a hospital bed, Xander pays her a visit, only to Ava declare that she’s going to rat him out to the police if he doesn’t help her abscond!
