In the Days of our Lives recap for August 25, 2023, Philip made his presence known…even if his face remained well and truly off-screen.

Days of our Lives Recap Highlights

In addition, Maggie and Melinda give Sarah and Sloan food for thought, respectively. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what happened.

Days of our Lives Recap: Fancy See You Here

Having just been apprised of Sloan’s (Jessica Serfaty) miscarriage, it fell to Roman (Josh Kelly) to inform Kate (Lauren Koslow), who’d just returned from buying several gifts in preparation for the baby shower they’d intended to throw.

After taking a few minutes to mourn the might-have-been and looking forward to a bright future where Sloan and Eric (temporary recast Jason Gerhardt) try again, Kate admitted to Roman that he was right where Philip was concerned. She should call him and tell him about Victor. So, she did. And it did not go down the way that she expected it.

Turns out Philip wasn’t content reflecting on his father’s memory from afar. He wanted to come back home to Salem and be with his friends and family — consequences be damned. It was a terrible idea. Even Roman said so. But Philip was adamant, and Kate was not sure how to go about stopping him. And, if Kate was honest with herself, she didn’t really want to.

Later, once Roman returned from a quick jaunt about town, he announced that he’d just run into her son. “Why didn’t Philip just come in?” wondered Kate. Probably because a) it was Rex (Kyle Lowder) whom Roman crossed paths with, and b) Philip was too busy knocking on the door of the apartment that Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) and Xander (Paul Telfer) share!

DAYS Recap: Blundering Through

Meanwhile, when Nicole (Arianne Zucker) offered Eric support and hope — after all, if she could get pregnant, Sloan could surely again — Melinda (Tina Huang) doubled down on her insistence that Sloan keep quiet about Nicole carrying Eric’s child.

But Sloan was just as adamant. She wanted to start over with Eric, clean slate, and all that. No secrets. Melinda continued to argue her point, leading Sloan to grouse that the lady D.A. was just worried she no longer had something to hold over her (Sloan’s) head. Not true, swore Melinda. She was saying this as Sloan’s friend.

In time — and following a mock trial where Sloan was the accused, asking a barrage of questions — Sloan could but concede that Melinda was right. Telling the truth would most likely cost her Eric and his love. And she couldn’t have that.

DOOL Recap: Crazy Making

At the Kiriakis mansion, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) recalled for Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) how she’d lied through her teeth when Xander had spied her pregnant state. Then, almost as an afterthought, Sarah told Maggie that Rex had asked her to get married, and she’d said yes.

That one threw Maggie for a serious loop. Was Sarah seriously considering marrying Rex? The man who cheated on her with her sister when they were last engaged? Yes, yes, she was.

Maggie argued that Xander deserved to know that he would soon become a father, but Sarah vehemently disagreed. Xander deserved NOTHING. Especially in light of his proposing to Chloe Lane…a clear rebound if there ever was one.

That aside, Maggie still argued Xander’s side. Is Sarah really prepared to spend the rest of her life lying not only to her ex but to her child as well? Hmmm? And what happens when the secret blows up in her face because it inevitably will. (Doesn’t she know that she’s living in a soap opera…a soap opera whose most famous storyline was a particularly prickly paternity potboiler?)

Sarah didn’t have much of a retort. Just that she knows she doesn’t want Xander in her life (methinks the lady doth protest too much) or her baby’s life. And not because he’s a bad man, but because he’s not a reliable man. A hero one day, a villain the next. They deserve better, her and baby. Maggie could but huff.

Cut to Xander — who’d earlier had to explain to Chloe that Sarah was very much not pregnant with his baby, and he knew because she said so and would never lie to him — darkening the mansion. Though he was there specifically to check in on Maggie, he was soon confronted by Sarah, who asked for some alone time. There were things they needed to discuss, apparently. (YOU THINK?!)
