The Days of our Lives recaps for January 16 – January 20, 2023, featured the passing of a much-beloved heroine — maybe. The jury’s still out.
Will Horton (Chandler Massey) overhears Leo (Greg Rikaart) cop to being an accomplice to Xander’s (Paul Telfer) kidnapping shenanigans and tattles to Sonny (Zach Tinker). As a result, Sonny banishes Leo from the Kiriakis manse…Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) tells Sonny that Stephanie (Abigail Klein) dumped him…Chad (Billy Flynn) makes himself indispensable to Stephanie…Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) reminds Alex of his playboy ways.
Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) asks Justin (Wally Kurth) to help her dissolve her marriage, but he and Bonnie (Judi Evans) advise against such hasty action…Sarah happens upon Xander and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) in a state of undress, assumes the worst, and takes her leave of them.
Stephanie was heartened by Joey (Tanner Stine) and Tripp Johnson’s (Lucas Adams) return to Salem…Johnny (Carson Boatman) referees a seemingly murder-minded Steve (Stephen Nichols) and potential victim Kristen (Stacy Haiduk). Kristen confesses a litany of misdeeds to Johnny. The entire convo is captured via a planted recording device.
Brady (Eric Martsolf) chases Gabi (Camila Banus) when she attempts to barrel into Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) hospital room in order to beg her to deprogram Stefan (Brandon Barash)…Stefan decks Li (Remington Hoffman). Li swears blind that he has no idea where Dr. Rolf (Richard Wharton) is; it’s a lie…Stefan excoriates Gabi for her selfishness and Li rides to her rescue.
Kristen absconds with Rachel, and suggests that the two of them bid Salem adieu; Rachel is more than receptive… Johnny agrees to testify to the authenticity of the recorded convo in which Kristen confessed her crimes…Li punches Stefan. Gabi lulls Li into thinking that she’s concerned for him, then dumps a bucket of ice on his head…Brady makes a play for Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin) but she pulls away.
An ailing Marlena begs John (Drake Hogestyn) to take her home…EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) momentarily stymies Kristen’s exit with Rachel but yields when she threatens to out his inaction where Stefan’s conditioning is concerned…Kristen is placed under arrest.
Rachel lays the blame for Kristen’s jailing at Chloe’s feet…EJ calls Kristen’s bluff and fills Stefan in on his failure to alert him to his brainwashing. Stefan privately vows vengeance…Johnny and Chanel (Raven Bowens) share a fraught moment while transforming the hospital roof into a private screening room for John and Marlena. John and Marlena enjoy a preprepared slideshow of days gone by; Marlena seemingly succumbs to the virus ravaging her body.
