On today’s Days of our Lives, Stefan DiMera manages to pull a fast one on his brother. EJ will most certainly not thank him for it.
In addition, Gwen (Emily O’Brien) and Xander (Paul Telfer) got real with one another, and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) put Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) firmly in his place. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
Much to EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) chagrin, Nicole (Arianne Zucker) alerted him to the very real possibility that Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Wendy (Victoria Grace) have rumbled his subterfuge.
On the other hand, she may have been able to steer the pair in the wrong direction. After all, she’d not only lied her “ass off,” but she “totally vouched for [EJ’s] innocence. I even told them that I was there when the investigator told you that Stefan’s fingerprints were on the vial.”

EJ was appreciative but apprehensive. After grousing that he’d clearly read too many Hardy Boys books to a wee Johnny, EJ bemoaned that his son could accuse him of — “Doing exactly what you’re doing,” interrupted Nicole.
Further conversation cemented EJ’s opinion that a big move needed to be made and made quickly. To that end, he extended a dinner invitation to Wei Shin (Clyde Kusatsu) with the intention of ensuring that Stefan would get a dose of the mystery substance and make a complete and utter fool of himself.
Opposite this, Johnny swung by the hospital and requested access to the tests that EJ had performed on the aforementioned mystery substance. Tripp (Lucas Adams) shot him down — HIPPA and all that — so a resolved Johnny merely pocketed his rival’s carelessly abandoned I.D. badge and used it to get the information.
Later, he and Wendy poured over the results and, thanks in part to a little sleuthing on the “Dark Web,” learned that Stefan was supposedly ingesting, “a rare medical-grade drug that not only induces euphoria but…also has a host of nasty side effects.”
Concluding that Stefan wouldn’t be imbibing that by choice and hitting upon the notion that EJ is the one doing the dosing, Johnny issued an SOS to Stefan…but kept his father’s name out of it, of course.
Impressed but nonetheless furious, Stefan greeted Nicole, EJ, and Wei and set about triple-crossing EJ, who did indeed wind up sipping the spiked drink.
At The Spectator, Gwen profusely apologized to Xander for attempting to jump his bones, and Xander, in turn, apologized for his inability to commit to her while his divorce from Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) was still up in the air.
Enter Leo (Greg Rikaart), who came bearing some “very exciting news,” namely that Xander and Sarah are officially splitsville.
Now, Leo thinks that he’s done a good thing, setting Xander free from that “sanctimonious Judgy McJudgerson, Mayor of Judgetown,” but Xander seemed unsure. So, Leo then took it upon himself to remind Xander of everything that Gwen sacrificed for him, in the name of their love.
To those points, Xander couldn’t quibble…but he also couldn’t bring himself to start again with Gwen. At least, not now. Gwen, having finally had her fill of wishy-washy, waffling Xander, blasted her ex good and proper. As a show of good faith, Xander handed Gwen total control of the paper and took his leave.
Alex’s efforts to conscript Victor to his side on the issue of “Bella Magazine” blew up spectacularly. Not only did Victor apprise Maggie of the situation, but he gave her decision to shutter the division his seal of approval.
To say that Maggie was disillusioned with, and disappointed in Alex would be an understatement. She was always steaming mad. Not only did she set her mind to review every account that he was overseeing, but she also issued the following warning: “If you ever go behind my back again to Victor, I will fire you. And the next time, I won’t be joking.”
A despondent Alex made a beeline for Small Bar, where he ran into, of all people, an equally despondent Gwen. And since misery loves company, he saddled up to her table and joined her for a round — or three.
Back at Wendy’s modest abode, Johnny wondered aloud whether or not he’d done the right thing by warning Stefan. Furthermore, he made up his mind to confront EJ. “You can’t just do something that underhanded and expect to get away with it.”
“You know, like what you just did to me,” questioned a clearly peeved Tripp. Man, does Johnny have some explaining to do.
