All soaps, including Days Of Our Lives (DOOL), make having multiple personalities seem as common as a cold. (Also included on that list of familiar ailments is hysterical paralysis. And blindness. And deafness. And pregnancy.)
One Life to Live’s Viki was probably the best known sufferer, though her daughter, Jessica, ultimately gave Mama(s) a run for her money. Luke (Anthony Geary) had it on General Hospital (GH). The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) seems to be hinting at it with Liam (Scott Clifton).
But, for now, it’s DAYS’ Abigail (Marci Miller) doing the front and center wigging out (wig included). Are fans finding her particular portrayal realistic? Here’s what a whopping 13,000 had to say!
So Say We All
First, there’s the fact that split or multiple personalities are much, much, MUCH rarer than television might lead you to believe.
Then there’s the fact that, when they are controversially diagnosed, they’re not quite as… dramatic as television would lead you to believe.
And they certainly don’t involve black and white fight scenes with two alters confronting each other, while a third sneaks out the door. Literally.
So what 60% of you are trying to say is, uh… no. This story may be entertaining, but it’s not exactly realistic.
Noting To Compare It To
On the other hand, because split or multiple personality is such a rare disorder, 40% of the audience admit they have no idea how realistic Abigail’s breakdown is – they’ve never seen it in real life.
For all they know, it does prompt sufferers to throw themselves at their brothers-in-law (Tyler Christopher) and kill a villain you were the only person to actually like.
It also might send you to Hong Kong without any memory of how you got there. The point is, you’re enjoying the ride, and don’t really care how real it might be.
Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
