Eric Black has bounced in and out of the priesthood on Days of our Lives so many times that by now, perhaps God can be considered one of his exes. At the moment, he’s ditched the collar yet again and is living the life of a footloose and fancy-free, single man.

Why is this even a question, 48% of the audience wonders. It’s so obviously Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker). He loved her when he was a priest. He loved her when she was involved with his stepbrother, Brady Black (Eric Martsolf). He loved her when they were married, and he even loved her when she cheated on him with Xander Cook (Paul Telfer) — he just couldn’t stay married to her. Now it’s obvious that Eric loves Nicole even while she’s married to Rafe Hernadez (Galen Gering). What God hath joined together…well, you know the rest of the drill.

Nicole is old news, says the 40% who are fed up. What Eric needs is someone new. We realize that’s pretty tough since he is related to both the Bradys and the Blacks. The women he’s not connected to by blood (we’ve given up on related to by marriage because that’s impossible to avoid) include Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk)…been there, been raped by that. Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow)…but his father got there first. Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin)…she’s with his brother (and he’s already done that, been there, too). Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus) could work…but she’s busy at the moment. So when we say new, we mean very, very new.

Eric seems pretty happy with Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu), 12% of you are quick to point out. She makes him smile, she makes him laugh, the morning after seemed pretty positive for both of them, and, oh, yeah, she’s not married. She used to be married. And for all we know, her ex may show up at some point down the line to cause angst and heartache for everyone. But she isn’t married now. And, for Eric, that is a step up!
