In 1983, Peter Reckell brought to life a new kind of leading man in Bo Brady on Days of Our Lives. Often imitated, but never duplicated, Reckell’s portrayal of the rebel turned hero won the hearts of millions of soap fans when DAYS paired him opposite Kristian Alfonso’s Hope. He left the show in 2015, but now the Daytime Emmy-nominated actor is here to answer your burning questions.
Peter Reckell: Will Bo Live Again?
Reckell began a recent Q&A session on Twitter by thanking his followers for their patronage to both a cause he champions and his music. “Thanks for being supportive!” Reckell tweeted, “5% of proceeds will support Futures Without Violence. It’s a great cause that helps women and children all over the world who suffer from domestic violence.
“Violence against women and children is a human rights violation and public health epidemic,” he adds. “Learn more about our work to prevent violence by building healthier relationships and communities [by clicking Futures Without Violence].”
Among the questions that the actor answered is the one on the minds of most DAYS fans. “Would you ever consider returning to Days with @kristianalfonso, even if it’s for a short stint??? I miss watching Bo & Hope scenes,” asked @MelissaNY115.
As DAYS viewers recall, Bo died on-screen back in 2015 after being away from the show for quite some time. However, DAYS fans also know that it’s not uncommon for characters to come back from the dead. “I never say never,” responds Reckell, who currently resides in New Zealand with his family. “I just wanna enjoy this time with my daughter before she’s off and running with her own life.”
Speaking of his and wife Kelly Moneymaker’s daughter, Loden, Reckell quipped that she’s keeping him busy these days: “I’m Loden’s chauffeur and kung fu partner. :).” The proud dad adds that his daughter is interested in writing. “Loden wants to be a novelist and is working on one now. She does write songs but says she does it for her own joy. She might put out a poetry book soon.”
Veteran DAYS fans count among their favorite moments when Bo whisked Hope away on a “borrowed” policeman’s motorcycle back in 1984, making sure she heard him out before she committed herself to another man.
“My favorite scene on DOOL was probably when you broke in on Hope to [the Bonnie Tyler song] Holding Out For A Hero before she could marry Larry Welch (Andrew Masset),” wrote @MariaOr97283016. “You took her away on your motorcycle. That had to be so fun to film. Any funny stories about filming it or other scenes with Kristian?”
“I rode the motorcycle to the location and CHiPS (California Highway Patrol) officers stopped me on the freeway,” Reckell recalls, “so the producers had to come back to save me because I was only wearing my wardrobe and didn’t have my license.”
@BarbJL57 pointed out that in some old clips Hope seemed to smack Bo a lot. “Did Kristian ever get in a really good 1?…meeting u would be my fangirl moment-who would do or has done that 4u? Thanx for doing this Peter!”
“Kristian used to accidentally hit me in the family jewels with luggage, or any other prop in her hands,” Reckell recalls adding a smiley face emoticon. 🙂 “Got so the crew would just start laughing before it even happened.” As for who he’d like to meet, he responds that person is none other than DAYS fan and Oscar-winner Julia Roberts (My Best Friend’s Wedding).
@MicheleElizab16 asked Reckell if he would ever be up for doing Dancing With the Stars along with Alfonso as a fellow contender. “Sure!” Reckell enthuses. “Let me dust off my dancing shoes!”
