Yes, “Days of Our Lives” has been building up to a Hope and Rafe romance since last summer, but it also threw so much at Hope’s life in the interim that we have to wonder if any passion between them now is way too soon.
When Hope had to pull away yesterday, it made sense. While Rafe has been pining for her for ages, Hope truly had no idea. Instead, she married Aiden, who then tried to kill her on their wedding night. Within minutes of that incident, Hope recovered consciousness to find love of her life Bo standing over her, and Aiden dead. (Well, maybe not really, most sincerely dead, considering Daniel Cosgrove’s imminent return.)
Not even 24 hours later, Hope made love to Bo in the same bed where she made love to Aiden right before he attempted to strangle her. Hours after that, Bo died of a brain tumor in Hope’s arms. This was less than six months ago, which is why we cringed when Hope led Rafe into the same bed where she made love to Aiden and made love to Bo in the course of one day.
Yes, the chemistry between Kristian Alfonso and Galen Gering is palpable and pales in comparison to what Alfonso had with Cosgrove. Maybe DAYS should have put the brakes on the Aiden romance when they saw it wasn’t working so Hope and Rafe would make more sense now, story wise.
We do root for Hope and Rafe (because we accept Peter Reckell is not returning), but we also can’t forget what she went through. Just give us a little more sweet romance right now and a little less passion, and let this pairing take its time.
