The moment both were dreading finally happened on Wednesday’s episode of Days of Our Lives as Nicole and Brady came face to face for the first time since Nicole supposedly burned up in that underground lair of Kristen’s.
Brady (Eric Martsolf) didn’t hesitate to apologize for what he did to Nicole (Arianne Zucker) that put in motion all the pain she went through — when he blackmailed her to stay away from Eric (Greg Vaughan) and leave town.
So when Nicole came forward and said she had something to apologize for, there was a huge sigh from this writer, happy to see this whole sordid mess dealt with and put aside, fully expecting Nicole to take responsibility for setting it all in motion by cheating on Brady with his own brother. But, um, no. That wasn’t what she was apologizing for.
Instead, Nicole was apologizing for coaching Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) on how to be more like her. Really? That’s what you want to apologize for, Nicole? It’s hard to believe that anyone would fault her for doing whatever she had to do to survive her captivity at Kristen’s hand. Why she thinks that’s something Brady would hold against her is… odd.
Nicole is no saint. No one has ever accused her of that, and she most certainly hasn’t ever claimed to be one. But she was definitely responsible for setting in motion all of the horrible things that ended up happening to her. That doesn’t mean she deserved to have them happen. Of course, these things needed to happen the way they did.
Zucker was leaving DAYS and the writers needed to have a reason to make her leave as soon as she reunited with the love of her life. And it worked. It made sense. But it would also make sense to see Nicole own up to her part in what happened and allow Brady a little bit of peace for having come off the spool at such a huge betrayal. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
