Susan Seaforth Hayes kicked off Women’s History Month. The Days of Our Live veteran looked back at her alter ego’s journey and shared one thing for which she’s grateful.

Looking Back At Julie’s Journey

The official DAYS Instagram account will be sharing incredible stories from the powerful ladies of the Peacock all month long. This month started with Seaforth Hayes, who looked back at Julie’s journey on the show. At the time, most female characters were either portrayed as the “heroine or villain.” During her time on the show, she noticed many things with her character’s growth.

“Since my time on the show, I’ve seen my character transition from a very needy teenager to a rather benevolent great-grandmother,” Seaforth Hayes noted. The star is grateful for one thing in her character’s growth. “I’ve been fortunate that my character was never recast with a younger, brighter, cuter girl than me,” she joked. “So now she doesn’t have to be cute or particularly bright, but she has to be loving and nurturing.” DOOL fans have witnessed that with Julie’s growth over the years.

How Art Imitates Life

Seaforth Hayes has seen parallels between her and her character. Throughout much of her career, she had to take a backseat to the men. This was most noticeable in a woman’s personal and professional life. (Recently, Seaforth Hayes paid tribute to her late husband, Bill Hayes.)

“In my own life, the parallel to that is I was a single child raised with no family except my mother and my grandmother, and my experience of life finally brought me into show business where I met fellas and realized that again they were the leading man and you were the ingenue or the character or the woman or the girl on the back or if you were lucky, the girl by his side,” Seaforth Hayes explained.

The legend is grateful women are more prominent in pop culture. Also, DAYS has featured various women from all walks of life and continues to do so. The soap consistently shares their stories, which makes them human. “Good for us! Good for the women! Good for the guys,” Seaforth Hayes added.

Fans took to the comment section to react. Most of them were grateful to watch Julie’s story unfold over the decades. Other fans thanked Seaforth Hayes for portraying such a strong woman on screen. One fan summed it up best as “words of wisdom.” What are your thoughts on Julie’s journey? Let us know in the comment section.
