In the Tuesday, January 21 episode of Days of Our Lives, EJ revealed his purpose for using Arnold this time around. He wants Rafe’s doppelganger to help him get Jada fired from her job as Police Commissioner.
Why Settle for DA When There’s DE
Since capturing Rafe (Galen Gering) and letting Arnold (Galen Gering) fly free, it has been unclear why EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) is even entertaining Arnold’s presence. Just pay him off and let him be on his way. But Arnold is playing the part of the pest. He’s zipping around EJ, wanting this and wanting that.
And now EJ’s found a use for him. He will help EJ get Jada (Elia Cantu) fired. After all, Jada’s the one who got EJ fired after she told the mayor that Belle (Martha Madison) would make a much better DA than EJ.
So, obviously, Mr. DiMera is out for revenge. He will dig up intel on Jada that paints her as a corrupt cop. Arnold will then expose her dirty deeds, resulting in Mayor Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) firing Jada and hiring Fake Rafe as commissioner. Once Arnold has the sweet gig in hand, he’ll convince the mayor to rehire EJ as district attorney. Why does EJ even think he can pull this off?
Ultimately, why does he want to be DA so much? At this point, how many times has he been fired? And why does he continually struggle to get his position back?

Better Option for EJ?
Sure, being the town’s district attorney wields a little power…in Salem. But if EJ decided to go after the head of DiMera again, that role would give him much more power.
And as Xander (Paul Telfer) said in Wednesday’s episode, Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) is currently distracted. Somebody needs to take the helm at DiMera. Why doesn’t EJ call up Shin and get the top spot back at the company? They’ll need somebody right now, considering that Xander and Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) are about to attempt a hostile takeover of DiMera.
When this Arnold ruse is discovered (and it inevitably will be), EJ will look worse than bad. Yes, he may successfully keep Arnold from doing anything nonconsensual to Jada (he better!). But getting her fired and replacing her with Fake Rafe won’t look good. And, of course, there’s the little matter of keeping OG Rafe tied up in the DiMera lair.
EJ seems out of control right now, and this doesn’t bode well for him. Remember that late last year, the show dropped a Season 60 trailer featuring an unseen person shooting EJ. The show is already lining up potential persons of interest.
