The September 9 episode of Days of our Lives saw the return of Theo, who is now played by daytime newcomer Tyler Joseph Andrews. Let’s get to know the new DOOL actor with what you need to know.
Where You’ve Seen Him Before
Before making his way to Salem, Andrews appeared in the 2024 films The Christmas Chain and V/H/S Beyond, as well as Leo in an episode of All American: Homecoming. This summer, Andrews starred as Private Jack Wilson in Black Panthers of WWII.
Andrews Was Almost Tate
Andrews recently revealed to TV Insider that Theo wasn’t the first DOOL role he auditioned for. In 2023, he auditioned for Tate, which ultimately went to Leo Howard. When Andrews auditioned for a mystery role a few months later, he screen-tested with Marissa Reyes (Ari). “I auditioned again, but they didn’t really tell me who I was auditioning for. Then about a week later, they let me know that I got the job,” he shared with TV Insider.
Teacher Thaao
Andrews revealed that while he’s become good friends with co-stars like Casey Moss (JJ) and James Reynolds (Abe), it was Thaao Penghlis (Tony) whose performances he’s studied. “I really love exploring the DiMera side because I get to work with actors like Thaao Penghlis, who really welcomed me, and he’s really been like an acting teacher for me, just watching him work.” Penghlis, of course, has decades of soap experience under his belt, not only on DOOL, but also General Hospital and Santa Barbara.
Theater Background
Andrews’ background lies in theater, training at Philadelphia’s Playhouse West and starring in several productions across Pennsylvania and New York. “This feels like live theater because you have a rehearsal and then you go to tape, but you only get to do it once,” Andrews said of working on a soap.
5th Member of the Day Players?
Aside from acting and theater, Andrews also has musical talent. Not only does he consider himself a baritone, but he also plays acoustic guitar. So, if the Day Plays — Eric Martsolf (Brady), Carson Boatman (Johnny), Brandon Barash (Stefan), and Wally Kurth (Justin) — are ever in need of a fifth member, they’ll know who to call.
