Here’s What Wally Kurth Says Being On Days of our Lives And General Hospital Means For Him

Soap Hub caught up with Wally Kurth on the red carpet at the Daytime Emmys. The actor was nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Justin on Days of our Lives. Many viewers know that he does double duty in his role as Ned on General Hospital, too.

Twice As Nice

Kurth could have landed a nomination for either of his roles, given the terrific material he had on both. Folks who judged the reels thought that the actor’s work as Justin was nomination-worthy. In 2023, Justin mourned his dear uncle Victor (John Aniston) following the patriarch’s passing. Across the dial (or stream, if you will), Kurth played out an amnesia storyline in which Ned believed he was really rock star Eddie Maine.

“I submitted reaction to Victor’s death and losing Alexander,” Kurth says of the story that revealed he wasn’t Alex’s dad — Victor was! “I had two juicy stories on DAYS,” Kurth continues.

On GH, he played out Ned’s journey of losing his memory and regaining his identity thanks to the love of his wife, Olivia (Lisa LoCicero). “That [story] was musical and magical in a way,” he says. “[Ned] was hiding, and it was fun putting together two reels.” While some performers aren’t fans of watching their own work, Kurth enjoys the process of reviewing his roles.

“I love putting together reels,” he says. The hard work done by producers at both shows results in Kurth being very content these days.

“I am so grateful because I really do believe that I’m a happier person and a better actor by doing both shows,” Kurth muses. “These [recent nominations] are proof that I’m a better actor than I used to be.” (He was nominated for playing GH’s Ned in 2018, and Kurth has received a total of three nods for playing Justin).

“I feel that I’ve grown up and have become a better actor,” he adds. “Doing both shows keeps me on my toes. We all come in prepared but I’m more prepared than if I were just on one show, I feel. I don’t want [anyone] to regret it. I come in, do my work, and thank them on the way out the door. [Laughs] I’m a problem solver, not a problem maker!”
