Victor Webster didn’t cross paths too much with Alison Sweeney when they appeared on Days of our Lives as, respectively, Nicholas and Sami. That’s about to change now that he’s joining her in her latest Hallmark Mystery movie titled One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, which airs tonight.

One Good Apple Deserves Another

In One Bad Apple, Sweeney’s Hannah, a cookie shop owner/crime-solving sleuth, crosses paths with a no-nonsense prosecuting attorney Chad Norton, played by Webster. How did the actor joining Sweeney in this movie come about?

‘Ali and I had done The Wedding Veil movies together [for Hallmark],” Webster tells Soap Hub. “We just love working together. I got a call from her, and she said, ‘Hi, do you want to come and play this role?”

Sweeney’s past screen partner in the Hannah Swenson movies, Cameron Mathison (who plays Mike; Drew, General Hospital), isn’t in the book that serves as the source material for One Bad Apple. So even though Webster’s Chad isn’t replacing Mike per se, the actor says, “These are some very big shoes to fill.”

Webster describes Chad as a “by-the-book” guy who has a “good sense of humor.” Chad’s not a detective like Mike is but his role as a lawyer creates organic interactions with crime-solving Hannah.

If you think that a prosecuting attorney might not take well to a lay person getting involved in solving crimes, you’d be right. “She’s a very smart cookie,” Webster puns of Hannah. “In the beginning, frankly, she’s very pesky. She comes in and gets involved. She has way too much information that she shouldn’t have. Chad’s wondering who is giving her all this info. He’s also worried about her safety.”

Watch for the duo’s dynamic to change as the story develops but you’ll have to tune in to see if romantic sparks will fly. “Chad realizes that Hannah is very smart and can be helpful, but she’s not law enforcement,” Webster says. “We walk a fine line where Chad appreciates her, but he doesn’t want her messing things up.”

Happy DAYS

Webster appeared on DAYS from 1999-2000 during which time Nicholas interacted with Billie (Krista Allen; ex-Taylor, Bold and the Beautiful), Vivian (Louise Sorel), and Kate (Lauren Koslow). Eventually, he divided his time between DAYS and his role as Victor Mansfield on The Lot, which was AMC’s first scripted series. Webster shot that series during the week and wrapped up his DAYS stint by coming in on a Saturday for a marathon session with Koslow’s Kate. “I remember my last day of work, I did 75 pages of dialogue,” Webster recalls, “31 scenes in five hours! I loved working with Lauren. She’s stunning.”

If DAYS reached out to him about reprising the part of Nicholas for the show’s upcoming 60th anniversary, would Webster be up for it? “One hundred percent yes,” he says. “I loved my time on the show.”

One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery airs Friday, April 5 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
