Days of Our Lives dropped a lot of drama on us in its Wednesday, October 2 episode. Several rivalries ignited some fun moments. Plus, Fiona’s clearly starting to break under the pressure of being a lying liar that lies. However, the two confrontations we’re concerned with now are Sophia and Holly, as well as Eric and Xander.
Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Sophia (Madelyn Kientz) have the makings of a great teen rivalry. There are valid reasons why they are at odds. Holly’s lies messed with Sophia’s plans to get with Tate (Leo Howard). And now she will exploit any advantage she has to get in between Tate and Holly.
This face-off in the middle of Horton Town Square was a long time coming. It was actually reminiscent of other fierce showdowns in HTS. One example is Kristen (then Eileen Davidson) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker), who had words and exchanged a couple of slaps over Brady way back in 2013.
Cut to the present, Holly and Sophia confront each other over Brady’s son, Tate. Everything was fair and balanced until Sophia crossed the line by calling Holly out on her alleged inability to have sex with Tate. Sophia went low, and, as a result, Holly went even lower and slapped her right there for everyone to see. Well, right there for Tate to see.

Tate was already teetering on ending things with Holly over the fact that she Nancy Drew’d in his dad’s room to get evidence of his guilt in Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) hit-and-run. Seeing her slap Sophia solidified his decision. However, he couldn’t quite come out and say it. Instead, Holly finished his thought, and not in a good way.
What will happen next? Will Sophia comfort Tate, resulting in the two getting close? Or will Tate want space to process this breakup? Unfortunately, both Sophia and Holly aren’t quite getting us to feel bad for them, and the breakup didn’t feel heartbreaking. Quite the opposite — it felt inevitable. Tate should take some time to himself and support his dad, but that’s not about to happen, right?

There’s so much bad, toxic history between Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Xander (Paul Telfer). These two should never be in the same room. And, usually, it’s Xander unleashing some sort of holy hell on Eric. If it’s not violence, it’s hiding baby secrets or sleeping with his wife.
While the teasers for today’s episode revealed that Xander rips into Eric, that’s not really what happened here. Eric was very much not his “Hulk, Smash” self he often is with Xander. He was calm, cool, and collected. He didn’t let Xander get the best of him, even though Xander kept with his mantra that Brady (Eric Martsolf) deserved all the pain in the world because he caused Sarah’s paralysis.
Xander spent much of the time on the defense because Eric basically let him know that he was on to him. He wanted to know what he was doing in his parents’ place standing over Brady. Eric put two and two together, which doesn’t always happen. He guessed Xander’s motives, the opportunity, and the execution. Then, he ended the episode by overhearing Sarah and Fiona (Serena Scott Thomas). We like Detective Eric Brady. Can he stick around?

Xander’s world, as he knows it, could be collateral damage. He had Brady drugged. Sarah lied about seeing Brady behind the wheel. These are both punishable offenses! Also, Xander’s thirst for revenge doesn’t seem to be satiated with Brady’s arrest. So he will no doubt try to kill him again. He pulled the gun out of his desk drawer, after all. When will he stop his revenge agenda? Will it be when it’s too late?
